(Latest on May 16, 2006) • A statistical portrait of our country and its people. • In Canada, the census is the only reliable source of detailed data for small groups (families, ethnic groups, etc), & for areas as small as a city neighbourhood or as large as the country itself. • Includes every man, woman & child living in Canada on Census Day, as well as Canadians who are abroad.

Your answer is there.

Question #3: Do men of Chinese ethnocultural background earn more money than women of Chinese ethnocultural background? • Using the same Census Table 15, change the “Sex” box at the top from “Total – sex” to “male” • Click the Refresh button • See the figure in the box “Worked full year full time – average employment income. Question #4: What is the average employment income of a person with a college certificate or diploma in Canada? • Go to Stats Canada website http://statcan.ca/ • Select Census (on left column) • Select Census 2001 (2006 data not yet available) • Under Census of Population, select Data Products • Select Topic Based Tabulations • Select Earnings of Canadians (item 18) • View Table 8 – “Employment income groups…” • Match up “Average employment income” row with “College certificate or diploma” column. Your answer is there. $ 32,736 – 2000 latest

Question #5a: Has the population for the neighbourhoood surrounding the Ashtonbee campus increased within the past 5 years? • Go to Statistics Canada website http://www.statcan.ca/start.html , click on Census – Census 2006 – data products • Under Specialized products, click on “Census Tract (CT) profiles – then click “GeoSearch 2006” • Select street intersection and type in Toronto – Ont – Warden Av – Eglinton Av E – Find. You now have the general area displayed.

(cont’d) • Choose the ‘Layers (1)’ tab & select the ‘Census Tracts’ button. All available census tracts for the location you have selected will be highlighted in yellow. • You now need to identify the specific census tract for the Ashtonbee campus section of this map. Click “Identify” on the left column and place “?” curser over Ashtonbee campus. (Locations with no available census tracts will be grey.)
