  1. X400 A500 X200 Training Course RF Description Lesson Four

  2. RF Block Diagram

  3. Block Diagram Description • Transceiver IC PMB6256V (provided by Infineon) • Integrated as a dual band transceiver that consists of quadrature modulator, direct conversion receiver, synthesizer and VCO • Signals from antenna or from PA enter into ASM LMSP54AA-117 (provided by Murata) • Received signals coming out from ASM pass through SAW filters B7820 and B7821 (Epcos). • Capable of Multislot Class 12 operation. (4 up 4 down total of 5) • X400 X200 and A500 operate as Multislot class 8 (1 up 4 down total of 5) • EDGE capable but not used

  4. Block Diagram Description • Modulated Tx signals coming out from transceiver IC enter into limiter driver IC PMB2256V (Infineon) and PA RF3140 (RFMD). • The E-GSM signal passes through SAW filter B4140 (EPCOS) before entering PA. • Power control of PA is managed through the control line PALEVEL. • Tx signals from the PA are switched inside ASM and are radiated from antenna .

  5. Receiver FunctionalityAntenna Switching Module • Antenna Switching Module • Integrated Antenna Switch and Diplexer

  6. Receiver FunctionalitySurface Acoustic Wave Filters • The Rx SAWs reject interference • Improves blocking performance • Eliminates Tx signals influence against transceiver IC.

  7. Receiver FunctionalityTransceiver IC • LNAs for E-GSM and DCS band are integrated. • Down converter mixers take signal straight to baseband I and Q (zero I/F) • Channel filter, blocking filter and PGA are also integrated. • PGA has 78dB range in controllable in 2dB steps. • IC supports DC offset compensation functionality

  8. Transmitter FunctionalityTransceiver IC/TX Limiter • Quadrature modulator employs direct modulation technique (zero I/F). • Modulated signal level is around 0dBm. • TX Limiter driver IC amplifies signal level for PA • Gain is 8dB • Supports dual band operation

  9. Transmitter Functionality • Between modulator and Limiter driver IC, discrete LPF called H3 filter, is used for eliminating harmonics. • For E-GSM, an additional balance/unbalance SAW filter is used. • 2dB attenuators limit input to PA

  10. Transmitter FunctionalityPower Amplifier • Power control method is indirect closed loop • Simplifies design by eliminating need for control loop couplers and APC IC. (Main difference between X60 Range and X70/GD87) • Three stage amplifier controlled by PALEVEL on stages 2 and 3 • TX signal level is therefore controlled directly by base band

  11. Main Differences • The E-GSM signal passes through SAW filter B4140 (EPCOS) before entering PA. • The Antenna Connector Is different from X60. Connector. Same as G50 G70 etc..

  12. The EndAny Questions?

  13. Test Yourself! • What is the modulated signal level provided by the SMARTI transceiver IC? • The LUMPI TX limiter driver IC provides how much gain to the signal? • Which other Panasonic models use the same RF connector as the X400 A500 X200? • The X60 range conform to a lower multislot class than than the TXRX is capable of. What class does it conform to and why? • What is the main difference between the the X400 RF transmit side and an X60 transmit side • What do SAW filters FL201 and FL202 protect against? • In the receive architecture what is the range and step size provided by the PGA?
