instructables and opensource
Instructables and OpenSource
  • CAD files for Ultimaker

Known Ingredients

  • Stepper motors
  • Microcontrollers
  • Sensors
  • Frame
  • Lots and lots of wires
cartridge materials thermoplastics
Cartridge Materials- Thermoplastics
  • Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS)

(chemical formula (C8H8)x· (C4H6)y·(C3H3N)z),

a copolymer made by polymerizing styrene and acrylonitrile in the presence of polybutadiene,

Amorphous> (no true melting point) approximate is 221 °F

  • Polylactic acid or polylactide (PLA)

(C3H4O2)n aliphaticpolyester made from renewable resources, (corn starch , tapioca products (roots, chips or starch) or sugarcanes.

Disadvantage: is difficult to recycle

Advantage: high stiffness, minimal warping, translucent color, biodegradable, plant-derived

  • Similar thermoplastics, ideas?
advantages of the project
Advantages of the Project
  • Creation of a printer for the lab

This could then be integrated into CAD courses, or moved to the art department for use

  • Development of personal skill

Working on this project will give us the knowledge we would need if we later wanted to create our own printer at home

As engineers, this gives us the opportunity to create and print new inventions, innovations, or artwork
