What Will Be Covered • SESSION 1 (Today) (8am - 6pm) • ABUA and TASO Policies and Procedures • UIL/TAPPS/SPC Policies and Procedures • Dues, Fees, Paperwork • Game Assignments, Game Payments • Uniforms and Equipment • Umpiring Responsibilities • SESSION 2 (8am – 6pm) • Basic Rules & Interpretations (NFHS) • Game Management • SESSION 3 (8am – 6pm) • Umpire Mechanics • On-Field Drills (location TBA) • SESSION 4 (8am – 6pm) • Working the Plate • Cage Work • Equipment needed • SESSIONS 5 & 6 • Scrimmages (Time/Location TBA)

  9. Dues • ABUA • 5% of game fees • $30 minimum • TASO • January • New Member ($25) • Returning Member ($50 Reinstatement Fee) • July 1st - Annual Dues ($60) (effective 2013)

  10. Games Worked • High School • (UIL/TAPPS/SPC/Home School) • College • Generally assigned by TCUA, but we will work if requested • Summer Ball • Generally, 13 & up • Men’s League (MSBL/MABL) • Select Leagues • Youth Leagues • Pony/Colt, Little League, etc.

  11. GAME ASSIGNMENTS • Independent Contractor • Assigning Secretaries • Jim Grimm (primary) • Ken Williams (assistant)

  12. GAME ASSIGNMENTS • Assignments are through ARBITER • Maintain your availability in ARBITER • WATCH YOUR EMAILS for daily notices and needs!! • KEEP YOUR AVAILABILITY CURRENT

  13. PAYMENT FOR GAMES WORKED • High School • Paid by schools • Everything else • Collected and paid by ABUA • Checks sent each month • 5% deducted for dues

COMMUNICATION • Arbiter • Login when you get the “invitation” email • Print the “OFFICIALS” report • Login periodically to check announcements, especially if we have inclement weather • Email • Check it often for updates, cancellations, changes, etc. • Phone • ABUA website • Notices of upcoming events
