  2. QuickBooks • The best all-around small-business accounting program for the PC. • Covers almost every accounting task in the book. • Companies can integrate the program with almost any application

  3. Peachtree • Peachtree has the most Net smarts. • It offers tight integration between your desktop accounting and your online store. • It’s the best choice for Web-minded small businesses.

  4. QuickBooks Pros • Forms are clear-cut, easy to follow, and almost always customizable to some extent. • Installing QuickBooks takes less than 10 minutes. • Accounting departments will find everything they need to track their companies’ finances.

  5. Peachtree Pros • Peachtree doesn’t hit you with splashy interface tricks. • Easy to navigate. • Peachtree has plenty of Web sizzle, but it hasn’t neglected small-business accounting.

  6. QuickBooks Cons • Costs are more than Peachtree’s costs. • For bargain hunters and e-commerce types, Peachtree is a better buy. • It looks a little outdated in Windows XP.

  7. Peachtree Cons • Installation and Configuration are tougher than QuickBooks. • When installing it doesn’t give you enough assistance in making important decisions, such as whether to use the cash or accrual accounting method. • Peachtree scatters windows across the screen as you open major modules.
