FENCING. During Elizabethan times, it was called the “Arte of Defence”. Most famous teachers came from Italy. Some famous teachers came from Spain. Fencing was seen as an art form and as a means of personal defense. The Name comes from the word DEFENSE

  2. During Elizabethan times, it was called the “Arte of Defence”. • Most famous teachers came from Italy. • Some famous teachers came from Spain. • Fencing was seen as an art form and as a means of personal defense.

  3. The Name comes from the word DEFENSE • Fencing was usually only used by Gentlemen because it was an art form that had to be taught

  5. Fencing Moves • Botta Dritta – a straight thrust • Stringering – keeping opposition to your adversary’s blade with your own blade • Incarta – a foot movement where a turn is made • Measure – the distance between you and your opponent

  6. Imbrocatta – downwards, over the blade, hand, or dagger, with the knuckes up • Stocatta – under the blade, hand, or dagger, usually towards the belly • Punta Reversa – from the left side to any part of the body • Appel – the striking of the ground with the leading foot, during, or immediately before the execution of an attack
