  2. Littering effects • Litter can cause a whole range of problems for everyone in the community. Litter thrown on the streets and parks can travel through the storm water system to our bays and oceans, where it can cause harm to wildlife. Removing litter from the environment costs everyone money( 11.5 billion dollars). Litter can harm humans. Litter attracts mice and is a breeding ground for bacteria. Items such as broken glass and needles can be a health hazard in public places. • You may think California is a beautiful and wonderful state, but it really isn’t the state spends about 1 billion dollars on litter clean up. California spends all that money to keep it beautiful for tourist and themselves .

  3. Littering facts • Litter sends out a message that people do not care that their environment is not clean.-Litter can harm or kill wildlife. Plastic litter can choke or suffocate birds and aquatic life. Carelessly thrown containers can trap small mammals. Organic matter, such as dog feces, leaves and grass clippings, pollutes our waterways. • Litter can be a fire hazard. Accumulated litter and carelessly discarded cigarette butts are potential fire hazard.

  4. Littering Facts (cont.) • Litter is an important environmental issue. • Amazing how 94% of people identify litter as a • major environmental problem and yet people still • litter. Carelessly discarded garbage affects every • member of society: it causes harm to people and • animals, damages our waterways, costs us money • and suggests that we do not care for our environment.

Bad appearances • More than half of all littering occurs within five meters of a garbage can.( people are very ,very lazy) • Often litter is simply left behind, but placed carefully in chosen locations by wedgers or undertakers. • The design and location of a garbage cans. People are more likely to objects in the open beside the trash can.
