  8. Eight Days in September • FY 2013 budget: continuing resolution • Follows agreed upon caps • Program funding frozen + 0.6% • Report on across-the-board cuts (sequestration) • Farm bill?

  9. It’s Official We’ve Entered Election Season

  10. Our Issues Are Taking Center Stage • Issue of poverty rising up • Deficit concerns and budget priorities central issues • The farm bill may expire

  11. Actions now are worth 4X what they will be in December • Candidates are listening. They want your vote. • Influence the negotiations and help shape the deals. • The lame duck will be crowded and noisy.

  12. The Rules Matter • Deficit reduction package likely will be a framework • Incorporate the circle of protection into that framework • Specifically: • Protections for programs for hungry and poor people • Balanced with revenues and spending cuts

  13. But After the Elections, We Can’t Rest • Major lame duck decisions will consume the final two months • Across-the-board cuts • Farm bill • Tax cuts • Deficit reduction • It will be an all out sprint to the end of the year
