  1. Sound meanings

  2. Diegetic sound • Diegetic sound is the sound naturally made when a scene is filmed on camera. The sounds could be foot steps, coughing or even talking from people in the area you are filming in.

  3. non diegetic sound • Non diegetic sound is the sound that you add to a scene when in the editing stage. these sounds are used to add an effect. They are used in most films for example in a horror movie a door creek is an example of non diegetic sound

  4. Sound bridge • At the beginning of one scene the sound from the previous scene carries over briefly before the sound from the new scene begins so for example in the previous scene you can hear a mans footsteps until the new scene starts then the sound fades out.

  5. voice over A voice over is where it shows a scene and a male or female speaks over the image and tells the audience about what is happing in the scene. Voice overs are most common in documentarys.

  6. Sound effect • A sound effect is used almost in every film. The effect is artificially made on a computer when editing. I could be an onomatiphere for example if a woman was walking down a road and then suddenly hears a glass break that would be a use of a sound effect.
