Understanding Epithelial Tissue Types: Structure and Function
DESCRIPTION
Epithelial tissues are classified based on their cell shape and layering. Simple epithelium includes squamous, cuboidal, and columnar types, each adapted for specific functions like absorption, secretion, and filtration. Pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium aids in respiratory function by trapping particles. Stratified epithelia, such as squamous, cuboidal, and columnar, provide protection and are involved in secretion. Transitional epithelium accommodates stretching in the urinary bladder. Glandular epithelium is specialized for gland function, producing fluids essential for body functions.
