ABILITY TO READ WITH UNDERSTANDING WRITTEN MATERIAL IN A VARIETY OF FORMS AND TO COMMENT ON ITS EFFECTIVENESS WRITTEN MATERIAL IN A MATERIAL OF FORMS: • Genre: genre is the kind or category of a text. Such as mystery, biography, fantasy, etc • Purpose: purpose is a reason why a text is written. There are 4 main purpose, those are to persuade, to inform, to entertain, and to instruct. • Tone: tone is the particular or relative pitch of a word, phrase, or sentence.

  3. II. KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF FEATURES OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE Identifying language features to identify genre, writer’s purpose and tone: • Vocabulary • Figures of speech • Structure

  4. VOCABULARY • Vocabulary is to demonstrate the genre, the writing, it’s purpose, and the tone. Vocabulary is chosen carefully by the writer.

  5. FIGURES OF SPEECH Figures of speech is using a particular device or trick with language in order to make it more interesting. We can use it to analyze the craft of the writers and to comment in exams. • Images/visualisation: simile, metaphore, personification • Sound: onomatopoeia, alliteration • Contradictions • Others

  6. III. THE ABILITY TO WRITE ACCURATELY, CLEARLY AND EFFECTIVELY FOR A PURPOSE OR AUDIENCE • Directed writing: producing pieces of writing similar to the original passage that you comment
