Learning about the SMART Board • Introduced in 1991 by SMART Technologies • Interactive whiteboard that provides touch capabilities of computer applications • SMART Boards include the whiteboard (with DViT), 4 digital writing utensils, and an eraser • Over 80% of the top 500 U.S. school districts use SMART products • Every classroom in the Kyrene school district has a SMART Board (over 550)

Benefits in the classroom Allows all students to engage and interact Encourages teamwork, sharing, and socialization Introduces children to technology at an early age Brings excitement to the classroom Disabled children or children with limited motor skills can use a SMART Board It is an excellent tool for the constructivist educator

  9. Cost • SMART Board $1200 - $3000 • LCD Projector $750 - $3000 • PC or Mac $750 - $4000 • Projector Light Bulb $50 - $500 Total $3,450 -  $10,500 Average SMART Boards cost about $5,000
