Welcome Aims of this evening: • To give some background information about the Pupil Premium Grant (PPG). • To explain eligibility. • To explain our responsibilities and our use of the grant. • To explain the support we offer to students, parents and carers. • To answer any immediate questions you may have.

  3. Pupil Premium Grant – a short history • The Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) was introduced in 2011. • The purpose was (is) to support students who may have suffered disadvantage due to personal or family issues. • The intention is to “narrow the gap” of achievement compared to students who are not Pupil Premium students. • The achievement gap is noted from age 7 and primary schools will now benefit from the same funding.

  4. Which students are included in the PPG? The government have included the following students identified through the schools January census information. The funding is one year behind actual data. • All children eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) within the last 6 years (called “Ever 6 Students”). • All “Looked After” students • All children with one or more parents serving in, or attached to the armed services in any capacity.

  5. Year 7 Catch Up funding Additional funding is provided for students who enter the school below level 4 in English or Mathematics, to enable them to catch up with the literacy and numeracy levels needed to access our full Key Stage 3 curriculum. Although NOT termed Pupil Premium this funding is inspected by Ofsted in the same way as Pupil Premium funding.

  6. Additional points…. • The government are encouraging all parents/carers eligible for FSM to claim them (even if the meals are NOT taken) so that the school can claim the additional funding to support the student. • NK has a number of students whose parent(s) serve at RAF Waddington. We have spoken to the Community Support Office at the base to ensure we have a direct link with families on the base.

Responsibilities of all Schools… • Identify all PPG students and use additional funding to accelerate their academic progress (especially in English and Mathematics) and support their social and emotional well-being. • Track progress compared to non PPG students. • Report the use and impact of PPG funding to all stakeholders (School Website). • Target attendance, behaviour and family links as appropriate.

What does this mean for staff at NK? • All teaching and support staff know who our PPG students are (FSM/LAC/Services/year 7 Catch up) and use seating plans, data and interventions to ACCELERATE their progress compared to non PPG students. • All staff plan and deliver effective lessons to accelerate progress of PPG students. • All staff provide frequent and effective feedback to all PPG students. • We provide teacher/subject/department interventions and record them ready to discuss with parents/carers. • All staff also know what whole school interventions PPG students are involved in.

Progress Manager support • Our Progress Managers (Mrs Dockery, Mrs McGrath, Mr Hall and Mr Jones) know their PPG students well and work with our Student Services team with Mrs Day to track their progress. • Progress Managers meet Mrs Day and Mr Mellows regularly to discuss students. They are able to identify progress, behaviour, attendance and social issues and respond rapidly. • They will consult with HoDs to find out how teachers/departments are intervening and how they can provide additional support.

  14. What now for parents and Carers? • An opportunity to speak to Senior Staff about your child (if you wish) • Invitations to students to attend additional events and activities. • Staff who will speak to you at Parents’ Evenings about Pupil Premium support offered. • Regular Website and Newsletter updates. • Displays and information at NK events to keep you in the picture about the Pupil Premium.
