  • Kuali Financial System

    • Implemented July 1, 2009

    • Will be in ‘sweep up’ mode for awhile

    • ‘Community Source’ saved $millions

  • Kuali Coeus research management system

    • In development

    • Will implement module by module staring Fall 10

  • Banner Document Management System (BDMS)

    • Project for Spring 10: imaging, organization, work flow

    • Proposed transition to CSU Libraries to deal with the ‘tsunami’ of data impinging upon us

  • Present focus on efficiencies and robustness

  • Federated identity management – shibboleth (shib) deployed

    • Need an Identity and Access Management system

  • NSF funded ISTeC HPC system – RFP ‘on the street’

  • NSF proposal for a digital repository for research data submitted in August


Networking
Networking

  • Have adequate Internet capacity at the FRGP

    • Commodity and R&E networks

    • Need additional WAN capacity (in process)

  • Capacity upgrades needed in the LAN

    • Three-tier model: central, building, edge (user)

    • A six year refresh cycle

    • Proposed a new cost recovery model based upon FTE to permit capacity upgrades

  • Have ceased rescanning for SSNs and CCNs

  • Wireless upgrades in progress

  • Next generation includes

    • Transport over the ‘internet’

    • Telephone (softphone clients very attractive)

    • Unified messaging

    • Federated (agnostic) instant messaging

    • Multipoint conferencing: audio, video, web

Learning Management Systems

  • Our most visible, used system (~7k sim. users)

  • A significant struggle with BlackBoard CE6

    • Very poor support from the vendor

    • Expensive

    • Difficult and staff intensive to operate

    • 1-page support documents developed (H1N1…)

  • Forced transition in 2011 – a big change

    • Exploring BB CE 9 & Community Source sakai

    • FCCT&L engaged in the discussion

    • 5-yr. refresh for computer projection – no upgrades for document cameras

    • 126 of 148 done (85%) by end of FY 2010

    • Adding 7-12 rooms per year (3 more years…)

  • Now installing HD systems

    • Higher resolution (to match current video cards)

    • 16x9 format, some ‘split screen’

  • Now know how to configure large classrooms
