  2. PELICAN • An unmistakable bird of coastal water • Famous for its huge bill with expanding pouch.

  3. PELICAN APPEARANCE • One of the world’s larges birds. • 5-8KG. • WINGSP UP TO 3M. • BENEATH IT’S LONG, FLATTENED BILL IS A BRIGHT YELLOW- ORANGE POUCH FOR FEEDING.

  4. HABITAT • Salt bays, beaches, ocean. • Shallow waters along coast. • Sheltered bays • Strays may appear on freshwater lakes inland.

  5. Behavior • Quiet animal • Likes plunging into water and coming to surface with fish in its bill. • Sometimes scavenges and will become tame.

  6. DIET • Fish • Menhaden • Smelt • Anchovies • Also some crustaceans

  7. NESTING • First breeds at the age 3 years or older. • They make the nest on ground or cliff of island, or on low trees such a mangroves. • They lay 3 eggs, sometimes 2 or 4. It is incubated by both sexes,roughly 28-30 days. • They live 12-14 years in the wild.
