Purpose • Experiment with known transitional metals in order to observe their chemical properties. • Then identify unknown transitional metals based on these properties. • Materials • spot plate, test tubes, centrifuge, goggles • K2CrO4, NH4OH, NH4SCN, HCl, K4Fe(CN)6 • transitional metal solutions: Co, Cu, Fe, Pb, Zn

  3. Procedure • Bring up clean test tube and get known transitional metal solution from instructor. • Experiment with transitional metal • record procedure done such as chemical added and amount, centrifuge…. • record observations (outline format fine) • no more than 10 drops except for HCl and NH4OH • dispose of in waste containers up front • Once done with all known transitional metals, start with unknown transitional metals
