Psychology behind mbpi1
Psychology behind MBPI

  • The Anima / Animus

    • Represented as the feminine image in the male psyche and the male image in the female psyche

    • Theorized that we sometimes repress our anima / animus depending on the situation – MACHISIMO, SENSITIVITY, TYPE A vs TYPE B PERSONALITY

  • The Persona

    • How we present ourselves to the world (derived from a Latin word that means “mask”) – HOW WE BEHAVE IN DIFFERENT SOCIAL SETTINGS

Myers briggs personality index
Myers Briggs Personality Index

  • Developed by Katharine Cook Briggs and her daughter, Isabel Briggs Myers

  • Developed during WW2 to help women entering the workforce for the first time in identifying the type of war-time jobs they would be most comfortable and effective.

  • Designed to look at the rational (judging) functions: thinking and feeling

  • As well as the “irrational” (perceiving) functions: sensing and intuition

How this relates to the fire service
How this relates to the fire service

  • As leaders and managers, we must recognize our own strengths and weaknesses

  • Sometimes we have to tailor our conversations so that the other person can understand in the way that they think as opposed to how we are presenting the information

What now
What now?

  • Embrace your individuality!

  • There is nothing “wrong” with you – in fact, most of us are a little off for doing this job, right?

  • If there is someone in your life that you do not get along with, could learning about your personality type affect that relationship in the future? Maybe.
