  1. My Presentation on Pill By Erin Pearce

  2. Where is Pill? Pill is a village in North Somerset. It is situated on the southern bank of the Avon. Pill is adjacent to the village of Easton-in-Gordano (where I live). The River Avon runs past Pill and there is a small creek. The River Avon

  3. The History of Pill “Pill”, in Anglo-Saxon, means a “creek” or “inlet” off a river or channel or a small harbour, often tidal and occasionally used as a dock. So the name Pill is pretty suited to the place seeing as there is a small dock just on the edge of Pill. Below is two pictures of the creek, one taken from the year 1912 and one taken now. Now: Then:

  4. The 1860s saw the building of the railway line between Bristol and Portishead. The line, which was opened to passengers in 1863, passed right through the village of Pill, with the result of that a large number of buildings had to be demolished to allow necessary straight and level passage. Lets see some pictures…..

  5. If you look closely, you can just see the pillbox above the railway. Soldiers in World War 2 used these to hide in.

  6. Pill Now There’s a Co-op A Salvation Army

  7. Our school, St Katherines There’s another small shop, Nisa A florist The Kings Head Pub The primary school, Crockerne A vet

  8. Every year there is a variety of events and fundraisers in the Pill Community such as: Pill Rag Pill Music Festival Lodway Music Festival Pill Regatta Apple Day

  9. Overall I think Pill is a great place to live, you can get involved in all the events as a community. Even though it’s small, Pill is a wonderful community. There is access to things that we need when we need it and it is a generally friendly place. Thanks for watching and listening to my presentation, I hope you enjoyed it!
