  4. Mission Statement The mission of Myrtle Grove Middle School is to provide a positive teaching and learning environment, including high expectations and encouragement of community involvement leading to a high level of achievement, wellness and self-esteem for all students.

  5. Population • 6 -8 grade students • Student age range 10-15yrs • Large autistic population • 800 + students

My Duties • Sit in during counseling sessions of individual students or groups • Sit in on disciplinary meetings with students and assistant principal • Supervise high school course planning • Tudor two 6th grade students in English and science • Read assigned books including: The Boy Who was Raised As a Dog by Dr. Bruce Perry and Reviving Ophelia by Dr. Mary Pipher

  7. History of School Counseling • Began as vocational counseling in the early 1900’s • On January 1, 2006, congress declared February 6-10 as National School Counseling Week

  8. Recommendation of Site • This site was good for me because my goal is to become a teacher and then a school counselor • I recommend this site if you are interested in working with adolescents in a school setting • If you are enjoy a lot of action and fast pace this may not be the site for you • This site and supervisor is great if you want to network with people in the school system • I definitely recommend Mr. Tayloe as a great supervisor. He is very intelligent, personable, and he really knows the schools system. He has worked in other psychiatric facilities and has a great deal of knowledge to share. He helped my think about my future career plans and path. He really cares about the students, I would be surprised if you pointed at a random kid in the hall and he couldn’t tell you their name and something about them.

  9. Recommendation of Supervisor • I definitely recommend Mr. Tayloe as a great supervisor. He is very intelligent, personable, and he really knows the schools system. He has worked in other psychiatric facilities and has a great deal of knowledge to share. He helped me think about my future career plans and path. He really cares about the students, I would be surprised if you pointed at a random kid in the hall and he couldn’t tell you their name and something about them. He suffers from a neurological disorder that slows is speech and movement, but doesn’t interfere with his interaction with the students
