  14. Complex Sentences • A complex sentence is formed with one dependent and one independent clause. Remember: A clause MUST have a subject and predicate (a noun and a verb). COMMA SPLICES • A comma splice is formed when 2 independent clauses are joined with only a comma and no conjunction. • A comma splice is a mistake that is often called a “run-on”. • Comma Splice: My mother came to pick me up, I was not where she told me to be. • Corrected: My mother came to pick me up, but I was not where she told me to be.
