  2. Router bits should be inserted ¼” into the chuck. FALSE – ½”

  3. The router should be disconnected from the power source before changing the bit. TRUE

  4. The plastic window over the cutter area must be in place except when you are wearing safety glasses which will provide adequate protection against wood chips. FALSE – always have the window in place

  5. All work must be clamped and secure before using the router freehand. TRUE

  6. The bit should be touching the wood at the point you wish to begin cutting to be sure you do not over-cut the project. FALSE – start with the bit away from the wood

  7. Practice cuts should always be made before making the final cut. TRUE

  8. When cutting a straight edge free-hand, the router should move from right to left, beginning on the edge grain. FALSE – left to right

  9. The router should move in a counter-clockwise direction when making circular cuts freehand. TRUE

  10. When the cut is finished, move the router off the wood to avoid accidentally bumping the finished cut and thus ruining the project. FALSE – leave the router on the wood until the bit has stopped

  11. The router should be stood up when not in use to avoid having it roll on the table. FALSE – always lay the router on its side

  12. Router bits travel at speeds of 20,000 to 30,000 revolutions per minute and are unprotected which makes this tool especially dangerous to operate. TRUE

  13. The router should move in a counter-clockwise direction when making circular cuts using the router table. FALSE – clockwise when using the router table

  14. The work area should be clear of all scraps before using the router. TRUE

  15. Always check to be sure the switch is off before plugging in the router. TRUE

  16. Cutters can be left in the router if it is mounted to a table since the cutter can be lowered below the table surface which protects the bit. FALSE – always remove the cutter

  17. When cutting a straight edge using the router table, the router should move from right to left, beginning on the edge grain. TRUE

  18. You must have the instructor present any time you will be using the router. TRUE
