Federal Funding for Small Business Collaboration • SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) and STTR (Small Business Technology Transfer) • 11 agencies allocate 2.5% of their extramural research funding for these competitive grants to aid small companies • Help for small business attempting to move technology through the “valley of death” • 3 phases covering feasibility to commercialization • Small business involvement is required • SBIR allows subcontract to university or nonprofit research institution • STTR requires collaboration with a university or nonprofit • Two useful Web pages • http://www.sbir.gov/federal_links.htm • http://www.sbir.gov/solicitations/
