  1. Habit #3 – Put First Things Firstthe will and won’t power By Cayleen Murphy & Sarah Lupky

  2. What does it mean? • Putting first things first means to prioritize and manage your time by using an agenda so you will know when you have time for the extra things you may want to do in the near future • Learning to overcome your fears and not let them make your decisions for example speaking up when you are over whelmed with work (i.e. CIP) • Being strong during the hard times

  3. Comparison • The teenagers in the modern day have many different challenges to face as opposed to teenagers 150 years ago. • Back then teens mostly had manual labour to deal with • Now a days teens have jobs, school, bills, and extra curricular activities (sports, friends exercising and siblings ) • Teens now have to manage their time and be more organized

  4. Time Quadrant #1 The Procrastinator • Quadrant 1 consists of things like having an exam or a test tomorrow, a friend getting injured, being late for work, having a project due today and your car breaking down • Procrastination may lead you to having headaches due to cramming for a test/exam the night before, not doing your home work till in class when its due, and missing your deadline • As a result of procrastination it may lead to stress, anxiety, burnouts, and mediocre performance (very poor quality)

  5. Quadrant # 2 the Prioritizer • Quadrant 2 consists of the not urgent but important such as planning, goal setting, essay due in a week, exercise, relationships and relaxation • Make sure you do the first things first! For example preparing the assignment that is due in a week to get it done and not have to worry about finishing it at last minute • In doing this you will maintain control in your life and balance everything out (school, friends, and extra curricular)

  6. Quadrant #3 The yesman(or woman) • Quadrant 3 consists of the unimportant phone calls, interruptions, other people’s small problems, and the peer pressure you may have • Characterized as the people pleaser due to doing this like answering a phone call that is unimportant to you but is to someone else • If you don’t want to be pressured you can always remove yourself from that “yes man” group, if you are in this quadrant GET OUT! Its one of the worst ones • Results in never saying no , having lack of discipline, also feeling like a “door mat” and appearing as having no back bone (metaphorically)

  7. Quadrant # 4 The Slacker • Quadrant 4 consists of watching too much TV, making endless phone calls, excessive computer games, mall marathons, and time wasters • Doing all of this will result in having a lack of responsibility, feeling guilty, and flakiness

  8. How to be successful • Pick up a planner and plan weekly! At the beginning of the week sit down and pick out the things you need to accomplish first, set aside time for them to get done • Stepping outside of your comfort zone and into the courage zone will help you with more opportunities, and you can reach your full potential. You will never get there just staying in your comfort zone! • You may have to “suck it up” from time to time but it will help you get to your goals, big or small.

  9. Habit 3 is the hardest habit to live by. Don’t get discouraged if you struggle, your future is in your hands • Have the will power to say “yes” to the important things the “no” to the less important things along with peer pressure Good Luck! I wish you well with putting FIRST THINGS FIRST! 
