  1. Rainsford wasn’t believing any of it, it couldn’t have been real in his eyes. Going up the castle may be a little risky. He still went up to the castle with no hesitation. He’s a risk taker, and that may cost him up the road. “A lofty structure with pointed towers plunging upward in to the gloom. His eyes made out the shadowy outlines of a palatial chateau; it was set on a high bluff, and on three sides of it cliffs dived down to where the sea licked greedy lips in the shadows.”

  2. This adds to the conflict that Rainsford will have no way to escape. It also adds to the problem of what if Rainsford can escape. He will have to come up with a sneaky plan to escape the dogs. “The lights from the windows sent a flickering illumination that made a grotesque patters on the courtyard below, and Rainsford could see moving about there a dozen or so huge black shapes; as they turned toward him, their eyes glittered greenly.”
