  3. Goal • Make a recommendation as to where the Birth-to-Five(B-5)/K-6 instructional programs should be housed.

  4. The Process • Identify the building requirements for the current B-5/K-6 programs • Identify the building usage requirements for the 7 – 8 grade extracurricular activities

  5. The Process (cont.) • Determine the feasibility/cost to convert/modify the Junior High to accommodate these programs • Determine the feasibility/cost to convert/modify Barhitte to accommodate these programs

  6. The Process (cont.) • Develop Driving Forces and Detracting Forces for each option • Create a consensus about which option is the best for the District

  7. Building Requirements • The B-5/K-6 instructional programs require 27 classrooms. • The after school programs run until 4:45 pm

  8. 7-8 Grade Extracurricular • Middle School Practice in Gym & Café Begins @ 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 pm • Middle School athletic events start at 4:00 pm

  9. Junior High Building • Currently has 18 classrooms in the building and one portable that is used for Special Services • Has a gym and a stage

  10. JH Additional Requirements • 9 additional classrooms • Modify a restroom • Size appropriate playground

  11. JH Additional Needs • Convert Library to two classrooms • Move Library to Tech Lab • Modify a restroom • Buy Portables • Build playground

  12. Disclaimer • The following figures are used for comparison purposes only, the actual cost will not be known unless the projects are competitively bid out. There are many variables that could alter the final cost. These figures were obtained by quotes over the phone and from our maintenance staff.

  13. Estimated Cost to Modify JH • Convert Library to classrooms and Tech Lab to Library $4,500 - $5,000 • Modify a restroom $3,600 - $4,000 • Portables @ $100,000 - $150,000 a piece

  14. Estimated Cost to Modify JH • 5 - 6 portables $500,000 - $900,000 • Used portables installed $50,000 • 5 - 6 used portables $250,000 - $300,000

  16. Total Estimated Cost for JH • With New Portables • $608,100 - $1,059,000 • With Used Portables • $358,100 - $459,000

  17. Barhitte Elementary • Currently has 18 classrooms inside • 9 portable units • Total of 27 classrooms • Has a gym suitable for that level • Has a playground suitable for that level

  18. Additional Requirements for Barhitte • Repair and upgrade portables • The existing building would not need any modifications • This does not include any routine maintenance for either the JH/Barhitte buildings

  19. Estimated Costs for Barhitte • Baseline needs $7,800 • Individual needs $7,850 • Possible Upgrading $8,550 • Total $24,200
