The changing political environment The Europe 2020 Strategy ••• 3 3 mutually reinforcing priorities: • Smart growth, developing an economy based on knowledge, innovation, education and digital society; • Sustainable growth, promoting a low-carbon, resource-efficient and competitive economy; and • Inclusive growth, fostering a high employment economy delivering social and territorial cohesion. On 19 May 2010 the Commission launched the Digital Agenda for Europe (DAE) DAE is one of the seven flagship initiatives of the EU 2020 Strategy DAE is aimed at getting Europe back on track on economic growth and maximise the economic and social benefits from ICTs Examples of DEA Actions: Support partnerships between the ICT sector and major emitting sectors (e.g. transport and logistics) to improve the energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions of these sectors by 2013 Increase the speed of ITS take-up, in particular for road and urban transport by, applying the proposed ITS Directive in support of interoperability and rapid standardisation The changing political environment Digital Agenda for Europe Vice-president Commissioner for Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes

  11. The new Forum objectives cover the period from 2010 to 2020. To implement the overall vision the following objectives will guide the work of the Forum: Another …% reduction in the number of fatalities across Europe starting from current level (2010) Another …% reduction in the number of seriously injured persons across Europe starting from current level (2010) …% reduction of road traffic related congestion …% improvements in energy-efficiency …availability of real time traffic and travel information through ICT applications in road traffic. eSafety Forum – analysis Objectives 11
