  8. TESTING PROCEDURES • TESTING SPECIFICATION PAPERS WILL BE HANDED OUT FOR WHAT TEST THE WELDER IS TAKING • ALL WELDERS SHOULD CAREFULLY READ THE SPECIFICATION SHEET TO KNOW WHAT IS EXPECTED DURING THE TESTING PROCESS • FAILING TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN A REJECTED TEST

  9. FIT UP & TACK UP • USING A PIECE OF 2” ANGLE, THE WELDER CAN APPLY A 1/4” TO 1/2” TACK AND THEN ROLL IT TO PUT 3 TO 4 EVENLY SPACED TACKS AROUND A 2” TEST COUPON. IF THE TACKS ARE OVER THE ALLOWED 1/2 OF AN INCH , THEY MUST BE FEATHERED BACK OR THE TEST WILL BE REJECTED.

THE TIME ALLOWED WILL BE ON THE SPECIFICATION SHEET. THE WELDER MUST WELD THE ROOT PASS, IN AN UP HILL PROGRESSION . • DO NOT EVER REMOVE TEST ASSEMBLY FROM THE TEST STAND UNTIL INSTRUCTED TO BY THE ATR. (GROUNDS FOR REJECTION) • MAKE SURE THE ROOT PASS IS TIED IN AND EDGES ARE BROKE DOWN BEFORE CONTACTING THE ATR. (THERE WILL BE NO REPAIRS AFTER THE ATR HAS INSPECTED THE ROOT PASS) • ONCE THE ROOT PASS IS IN, THE WELDER WILL CONTACT THE ATR FOR APPROVAL TO CONTINUE THE TEST. • AFTER APPROVAL OF THE ROOT PASS, THE WELDER SHALL WELD THE TEST ASSEMBLY OUT COMPLETELY.

  13. WELD OUT & COVER PASS • ONCE THE ROOT PASS IS ACCEPTED, THE WELDER IS TO FILL TEST ASSEMBLY IN AN UPHILL PROGRESSION. • AFTER FILLING THE TEST ASSEMBLY, THE COVER PASS WILL BE APPLIED ACCORDING TO THE SPECIFICATIONS ON THE WELD BEING TAKEN. • ONCE THE TEST IS COMPLETED. THERE WILL BE NO GRINDING ON THE FINISHED TEST. • WELDERS ARE ALLOWED TO GRIND ON STOPS AND STARTS, BUT THE COMPLETED WELD TEST SHALL NOT BE GROUND ON OR USE A FILE TO RING THE WELD • COVER PASSES MUST BE UNIFORM, NO UNDER FILL, TO MUCH REINFORCEMENT WILL NOT BE ALLOWED AND ALL STRINGERS MUST BE TIED IN PROPERLY! • IF THE COMPLETED TEST HAS BEEN GROUND ON THE TEST WILL BE VISUALLY REJECTED!
