  1. DC report june_04,J.E. MEG DC (report June04) • Foil stability and quench related problems • How to get more stability • Frame design • Measurement of the m target position • schedule 2004-2005

  2. DC report june_04,J.E. YO XL YO,XR +XL XL,XR XR pDC pbag Sbag1 Sbag2 Bag gas DC gas Pbag,PDC Pbag-PDC bubbler Vbubbler Hood foil stability test • a) .1 mm not reached at flux changes • b) V-bubbler successful • c) XR,XL,YO correlated • Larger forces on the foil • „vertical forces“, stabilize chamber width

  3. DC report june_04,J.E. • Larger forces on the frame  larger deformations • How to get „vertical forces“ • Control of the HV to avoid damages during quench • Quench is relatively slow : t > > 1 sec • To fast switch off (chamber HV) is also dangerous : RC(chamber) ~ 10 ms •  switch off time ~ 100 ms We think about ways to test the behavior to quenches, as soon as the Al-frame full size prototype will be completely available

  4. Mounting of Cathode foils DC report june_04,J.E. a) Stretchedcarbon fibers(1000x d=6mm) and deformedROHACELL Pretension forceson frameto simulate carbon fibers and foils, glue fibers b) Position (.1 mm)stretched foils and glue them on frame and ROHACELL c) Cut foil  vertical miniforce on the foil Also z-stability better (^ S 1/expansion coef)

  5. DC report june_04,J.E. Mounting of Hood foil • To do better: Stretch „vertically“ and fix the width • Modify the shape of the hood to have a larger flat surface to glue • Machine a foam structure in ROHACELL 30 • Adapt the cathode foil procedureOnly minor modifications to the previously designed tools Largest height Not disturbing the cell

  6. DC report june_04,J.E. wings basis Carbon fibers 110 mm Stesalit 199 mm 331 mm Frame shape • fix dimensions of foils  order • Only wing print + built in LV supply cable • carbon fibers solution (W) and price • modify frame shape to correct in first order for: • basis shape ( first cell) frame height (foil height) edge angle (gluing) tested

  7. DC report june_04,J.E. m target position • Without knowing the exact spectrometer resolution build a target with holes of different sizes • Knowing the exact spectrometer resolution optimize the size of a series of holes and slits on the target to clearly see the holes without loosing too much intensitiesSince the non stopped m seem to have a larger probability to contribute to the background, the edge of the target will not be sharp enough .
