  1. Will a wooden bat hit farther than a aluminum By: Momin Malik

  2. Purpose/Problem • Purpose: This upcoming summer I am playing AAU baseball and I wanted to know if I should buy a wooden bat or aluminum. • Problem: I have been using both types of bats and I don’t know which one I preform better with and I want to get to the bottom of my problem.

  3. Background Research • The aluminum bat was introduced in 1924. A patent was issued by the United States government for a proposed design of a metal bat. However, aluminum bats were not seen in the game of baseball until they were introduced in 1970 when Worth Bat Co. manufactured the one-piece aluminum bat, which became the first Little League metal bat. Since then, most leagues--with the exception of Major League Baseball--now use aluminum bats.

  4. Hypothesis • If the wooden bat hits farther then the aluminum bat then I will use the wooden bat for my upcoming AAU baseball season.

  5. Materials • Baseballs • Bats • People • Measurement tape • Speed tracker • Scale • Car • Baseball field

  6. Procedure • First, I bought my materials • Second I got 5 friends and went to a baseball field • Then every friend hit with the wooden bat at different bats for the baseball. • Then every friend hit with the aluminum bat at different speeds. • We measured the lengths and seen which bat went farther.

  7. Qualitative data My friends hit with the wooden bat and the ball went 43 feet, 35 feet, and 39 feet. Then they hit it with the aluminum bat and they went 20, 25, 7 feet.

  8. Graph

  9. Results • The result was that the wooden bat for every test we did went further and we found out that it performs better. The wooden bat hit an average of 8 feet further.

  10. Conclusion • My hypothesis was right and I said that the wooden b at will go farther and I will use it for my baseball season.
