  2. act • To do something. • Firefighters have to act quickly to put out fires. • To be in a play or a movie. • Everyone in our class is going to act in the school play.

  3. miss • Means not to do something that you plan to do. • If we don’t hurry, we will miss the beginning of the movie. • Means to be sorry that you don’t have something, or that someone you like isn’t with you. • I miss my sister when she goes to camp in the summer.

  4. dull • Not sharp • The knife is so dull that it is not sharp. • Not interesting • The program was very dull.

  5. check • To find out if something is the way it should be . • The teacher told us to check our spelling . • is also a mark to show that something has been looked at or is correct. • Amy put a check next to each answer.

  6. comic • Means funny. • A mouse chasing a cat is a comic thing to see. • Are cartoons put in a row to tell a story. • Comics are printed in newspapers and in thin paper book.
