  3. Physical Properties of Alkenes • Colorless & odorless (no color, no smell) • Physical State depends on molecular mass.

  4. Physical State • The simplest alkenes, ethene, propene and butene are gases. • Linearalkenes of approximately 5 to 16 carbons are liquids, and higheralkenes are waxy solids.

  5. Physical Properties of Alkenes • Alkenes has a smallerdensity than water. • So they are insoluble in water.

  6. Boiling point • The more intermolecular mass is added, the higher the boiling point. • Intermolecular forces of alkenes gets stronger with increase in the sizeof the molecules.

  8. Chemical properties of Alkenes • Relativelystablecompounds • But are more reactive than alkanes due to the presence of a carbon–carbon pi-bond.
