  2. What is a microbe? It is a microorganism that causes disease, also known as bacteria or fungi! They also include plants, like algae, and animals, like plankton. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.metrolic.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/microbes.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.metrolic.com/microbes-transplant-6149/&usg=__8ctRH6yi-6GmQPZVHDOrKW7mSdA=&h=294&w=320&sz=85&hl=en&start=0&zoom=1&tbnid=s4RUVw7HHFr0TM:&tbnh=124&tbnw=136&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dmicrobes%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D1440%26bih%3D710%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=256&vpy=98&dur=234&hovh=215&hovw=234&tx=112&ty=111&ei=qZLITKaADoGosAPszbTFCA&oei=qZLITKaADoGosAPszbTFCA&esq=1&page=1&ndsp=33&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:0

  3. They live in our bodies! Microbes can find their way into our bodies and usually make their homes where it is moist and warm. These parts are also exposed to the outside. They might live in our eyes, armpits, ears, nose, and your mouth! They are flushed out by sweat, tears, and other liquids our body produces. You can also get rid of some by taking a bath! http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1370/is_n7_v26/ai_12536154/

  4. Microbes help us in lots of ways! • They keep us healthy. • They make nutrients that help the immune system to recognize threatening bacteria and get rid of them. These are also called Probiotics. • They help us digest our food. • The microbes that live in our intestines break up the food and suck out all the nutrients. This is what sometimes causes gas or bad breath. It is just how our bodies break down the food we eat! http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1370/is_n7_v26/ai_12536154/

  5. …but there are bad microbes too • Some microbes, such as viruses or bacteria, can cause sickness like the flu or a cold. • They also can cause food to go bad, which will also make you sick if you eat it. • Germs can live anywhere in your house, so make sure you clean on a regular basis. • The first place to start protecting yourself from bad microbes is your hands! Make sure you wash your hands daily.

  6. Molds- most common type of food spoiling organism Yeast- a form of fungi that makes break rise and ferments alcohol. Bacteria- these can cause illness and can grow in the body once eaten. Molds Yeast Bacteria Food poisoning! This can give you upset stomache and even make you vomit. This happens when you eat spoiled food with bad microbes in it. Store foods correctly! Cook food properly! Do not cross-contaminate food! Salmonella- must be consumed in large doses and heating up food kills the microbe. Camplyobacter- found in undercooked chicken and causes stomache cramps. Listeria- found in raw meat and soft cheese and can cause meningitis.
