The National Digital Stewardship Residency program by the Library of Congress aims to build a community of professionals who will advance our nation's capabilities in managing, preserving, and making accessible the record of human achievement held in digital form. This residency program aims to bridge classroom education and professional experience, defining core competencies of digital stewardship training and creating a national model for digital stewardship training.

  3. NDSR Objectives The LIBRARY of CONGRESS • The program seeks to: • Define the core competencies of digital stewardship training • Create a community of experts in the field • Establish a national model for digital stewardship training • Bridge classroom education and professional experience

  4. Why a Residency Program ? The LIBRARY of CONGRESS • -The Need to Tie theory and practice in the field- • To address this need NDSR will: • Host the Digital Stewardship Immersion Workshop • Enable students to work in other professional institutions for 9 months • Foster collaborative learning between students and professionals in the field

The Perfect Project The LIBRARY of CONGRESS • Contains Clear objectives; short and long-term goals • Encourages Diverse skill sets • Develops a sense of community • Requires significant engagement of the resident • Is practical and hands-on • Produces a final deliverable • Contains thorough Assessment methods

Meeting the Challenges The LIBRARY of CONGRESS • The design of an inter-agency internship or residency program must address challenging areas: • Finding hosts engaged in digital activity • Determining who should lead planning and content development • Optimal Length for the Program • Funding the initiative

Measuring Program Success & Assessing Impact The LIBRARY of CONGRESS • Web surveys • Measurable, statistical data interpretation • Focus groups / review with curriculum development panel • Questioning and assessing progress in smaller pieces along the way • Good design means successful results
