  1. True Discipleship Luke 9:23

  2. True Discipleship • Jesus’ disciples identify Him as the Christ (Luke 9:18-20; Matt. 16:13-16; Mark 8:27-29) • Jesus begins to teach them about His death and resurrection (Luke 9:21-22; Matt. 16:20-21; Mark 8:30-31) • Jesus teaches them what it truly means to be His disciples(Luke 9:23; Matt. 16:24; Mark 8:34)

  3. Denying Self • Jesus is our ultimate example of denying self (Phil. 2:3-8; Matt. 20:25-28; John 13:1-5, 12-17; Matt. 26:36-39) • If we truly want to be His disciples, we must follow His example and stop living for ourselves (2 Cor. 5:14-15; 1 Cor. 6:19-20; Rom. 12:1; Gal. 2:20)

  4. Taking Up Our Cross • The cross was a symbol of suffering and shameful death (Gal. 3:13; Deut. 21:22-23; 1 Cor. 1:18, 21-23; Heb. 12:2) • We must be willing to suffer shame for Christ (Luke 9:26; Acts 5:41; Rom. 1:16) • We must be willing to suffer persecution for Christ(1 Pet. 2:20-23; 2 Tim. 3:12; James 1:2-4; Matt. 5:10-12)

  5. Are You a True Disciple of Christ? Luke 9:23
