  6. Background Introduction Within the .ng TLD there is a number of Second Level Domains (SLD) with each having a specific purpose. Examples are shown in the classification

  8. Background Introduction Some of the SLDs are open while others are closed. A closed SLD means that it is only available for use by a defined community of interest. .gov.ng is one of such closed SLDs.

  15. Using the Domain registry Portal • The Domain Registry is broadly sub-divided into two groups of Users;

  16. Using the Domain registry Portal • The MDA Client Portal can allow a new registrant to apply for a new domain or apply for domain handle of an existing domain by first creating an MDA Client account in the registry portal. • The following is the process for domain application on the portal.

  17. Using the Domain registry Portal • Government bodies will generally register domains directly within gov.ng. For example, fct.gov.ng is used by the Federal Capital Territory and fmh.gov.ng is used by the Federal Ministry of Health. • State and local Government bodies will generally register domain names specific to their state or territory. For example, lagosstate.gov.ng is used as a portal for the lagos Government as a whole, and health.lagosstate.gov.ng is used by the lagos state Government's health department.

  23. Using the Domain registry Portal The Domain Registry Administrator group are the Domain registrar of the registry. There are three Roles for the Domain registrar on the Portal;

  24. The Help Desk Officer The Help Desk Officer is the client online support officer. He does that by responding to the online Chat Engine , managing the frequently asked questions (FAQ) module and the Phone Support

  25. The Management Officer The Management Officer manages all application procedures for both applying for a new domain name and also domain handle of an existing domain. He can verify contacts (Administrative, Technical and billing). He can approve a verified application and make it available for the Administrative Officer.

  26. The Administrative Officer The Portal interfaces directly with the .gov.ng DNS Server. The Administrative Officer approves all requests made, approved applications and handles to be registered on the DNS Server . He is the direct DNS Server manager.
