  1. TEEP Prepare for Learning BTEC Level 2 Engineering Friday, 20 December 2019

  2. Mass Production https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjAZGUcjrP8

  3. Learning Objectives To understand the scale of engineering production: mass production.

  4. Learning Outcomes Progress – Identify what mass production is. Good Progress –Identify some advantages and disadvantages of mass production. Exceptional Progress –Describe mass production to enable future comparisons.

  5. Methods of Production One-off Batch Different methods Continuous Mass

  6. Mass production •Mass products are produced in HIGH volume •Mass production makes use of efficient automated manufacturing processes and a largely unskilled workforce. •Mass produced products are designed to follow mass market trends, so the product appeals to a wide national and international target market. •Production planning and quality control (QC) enables the manufacture of identical products. •Production costs are kept as low as possible so that the product will provide value for money. •Mass products will include things like, pens, pencils, electronic products, and many more every day items. • It is a cheap method of production because materials can be bought in large numbers and a large number can be made quickly.

  11. Mass Production Working as a class you are going to set up a production line to mass produce charity keyrings. Everyone will need a role in the production line, the aim is to produce more keyrings than were produced when batch producing keyrings.

  12. Mass Production • Process Raw Material • Prepare surface for marking • Mark surface from template • Quality Control Check • Cut 1 • Cut 2 • Cut 3 • Quality Control Check • File 1 • File 2 • File 3 • Rough Sand • Smooth Sand • Quality Control Check • Dry wet/dry • Wet wet/dry • Drill • Key ring • Quality Control Check

  13. Progress – Identify what mass production is. Good Progress –Identify some advantages and disadvantages of mass production. Exceptional Progress –Describe mass production to enable future comparisons.
