  1. GCF Legal Status • Established in 1999 as a certification forum by operators, manufacturers and other parties • Since May 2008 incorporated in the United Kingdom asGlobal Certification Forum (GCF) LtdA PRIVATE COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE AND NOT HAVING A SHARE CAPITALa non-profit company funded by membership fees only • Articles of Association available at:http://www.globalcertificationforum.org/images/downloads/Articles_of_Association_Dec2015.pdf

  2. Who are GCF’s members? • Manufacturers (Full & Associate) 88 • Device & M2M Manufacturers • Operators (Full & Associate) 126 • Members include 23 largest international operator groups • Observers 75 • Test companies supporting manufacturer and operators members • Component manufacturers, software/app developers • Total membership 289 Membership is Global, and includes companies from all key regions of the world More than 4,000 accounts issued to the members’ portal

  3. GCF’s Working Group Structure Board SG - Steering Group CAG Conformance (3GPP) FTAG Field Trials and IOP (3GPP) PAG Performance CAG2 Conformance and IOP (3GPP2) TCAG2 Test Case Dev. (3GPP2) • Plus the following Task Forces: • Strategy • M2M • Rich Communications Service (RCS) • Membership and Certification Processes • India Market

  4. What is GCF Certification? • Standards-based scheme providing an assurance of successful interoperabilitybetween wireless devices & mobile networks • 3GPP standards are the basis for GCF certification • Supplemented with standards from other SDOs • Complementary to regulatory schemes • Promotes consensus between operators and manufacturers on priorities and timeline for introduction of new device features and functionality • Harmonisation of optional performance testing • The GCF validation of test cases on commercial test equipment ensures one common interpretation of core specifications and of device requirements, and thus a globalacceptance of test results

  5. Recognized Worldwide Applied to 3GPP to become Market Representation Partner

  6. Why is there a need for certification? • Naturally standards, even globally agreed, are open to interpretations • Certification detects interpretations issues before devices are launched • Adds flexibility and future proofing on top of the type approval/regulatory requirements • Industry certification schemes can act/react much quicker • Avoid multiple repetitions of local testing which adds cost and delays to product launch • By defining test plans, experts from GCF members around the world provide practical guidance to manufacturers on how to implement and test features • Provides feedback to the standards bodies • Agreement on test methods and platforms

  7. Why is GCF important? • GCF is successful and has had a positive impact on mobile devices & networks worldwide • All chipset manufacturers and stack suppliers test their products against GCF requirements • Even companies who do not certify use all or part of the test suites • Significant part of M2M modules are GCF certified • Standardization and harmonization of test requirements provides cost effective • GCF certification ensures that devices have sufficient level of interoperability with mobile communication infrastructures • GCF is a key contributor to ensure efficient use of network resources • Working with key regions in the world to address interoperability issues • GCF certification is aspirational • Facilitates the development of products for international markets and roaming. • Helps new entrants to the Mobile Markets

  8. How does GCF benefit mobile industry? Operators Manufacturers Reduces costs & therefore increases revenue by reducing time to market through use of standardized test plans Protects investments in brands by helping to minimise negative end-user experiences from poor Internet connections, dropped calls, undelivered messages Increases revenue by opening new sales channels GCF Certification is a requirement of acceptance testing of many operators • Reduces Operator acceptance testing costs and improves time to market. • Saves operating expenditure by avoiding network interoperability issues impacting services • Increases market share by improving customers’ experience of your network • Reduces risk/expense of product recalls • Reduces reputational damage GCF supports an eco-system of test houses & equipment vendors providing testing services

  9. Certified devices drive the market Latest device Certifications New record of 540 devices certified in 2015
