  1. Service Learning Projects Sara Pound Fall 2009-Spring 2010

  2. What is Service Learning? “ Service Learning is community service integrated with academic instruction as it focuses on critical, reflective thinking, and civic responsibility. ” (from Keys To Success by VSU, page 391)

  3. What are the benefits of service learning? • Increases retention • Provides quality education • Allows students to see “the real world” • Empowers students as learners, thinkers, achievers, and leaders • Helps with the community • Contributes to thousands of hours of service to people in need, non-profit agencies, private sector companies, non-governmental and governmental agencies (from Keys To Success by VSU, page 392)

  4. What did I learn from service learning? • Through service learning, I learned a lot about myself and other organizations. I learned that there is always something you can do to help others whether it be by giving a homeless person two dollars, picking up trash, or working at a big event for non-profit organizations. Service learning truly makes you feel thankful for what you have and makes you want to help those in need.

  5. Phi Mu Sixth Annual Volleyball Tournament • Phi Mu Sorority holds an annual volleyball tournament to raise money for our philanthropy, Children’s Miracle Network. We spent almost ten hours at this tournament that day and raised $17,000 for CMN! This is a record high of the amount of money we have raised for them! Our sorority loves CMN and we always do whatever we can to help them.
