Community Oriented Policing • Balances reactive responses to calls for service with proactive problem-solving centered on the causes of crime and disorder. • Community oriented policing requirespolice and citizens join together as partnersin the course of both identifying and effectively addressing issues.

Community-oriented policing TRADITIONAL • React to incidents • Take a report • Take yet another report • Randomly patrol • Make arrests COMMUNITY-ORIENTED • Constantly review reports for patterns, geography becomes relevant • Look for root causes • Look for commonalties, ie- low lighting, limited access • Utilize supportive technology • Concentrate on small problems to prevent big ones • Develop community partnerships

Community Policing Goals for Crime Reduction • To significantly reduce street level activity and those crimes associated with it • To Improve the living conditions of residential areas experiencing the negative effects that unlawful activity creates • To rebuild community trust through partnerships, ie-citizens academy , teen squad, explorer post, PAL, engagement, etc. • To redirect offenders to a more productive life
