  1. Get Off My Land Looking at the title what do you think the film is going to be about? By Abdul-Majid & Afzaal Ahmed

  2. Video Clip http://www.bbc.co.uk/filmnetwork/films/p00gs4yj Brief: A young couple on a countryside walk meet the farmer who owns the land they're walking across.

  3. Genre What genre do you think this film is?

  4. Production Details Short fact: Shot in Trent Park, North London. Crew Director……………Douglas Ray Writer………………Douglas Ray Producer………….Jonathan Rawlinson & Amaka Ugwunkwo Funded By Screen South and UK Film Council Digital Shorts.

  5. Film Style and Form • The style and form of this film short includes recording produced using tripods, tracking and panning as a post to hand held recording. • This helps to make the film look more professional.

  6. Narrative Structure • The equilibrium of this narrative is whereby the couple are taking a walk in the fields. This is a natural storyline which takes place in everyday life, everything is balanced. • This is followed by the disruption where the farmer starts having an argument with the couple and then pulls out a shotgun. This leads to the tragic shooting of the couple which disturbs the balance.

  7. Narrative Structure Cont. • The new equilibrium is shown when the farmer realises that he actually does not own the land at that it really is a public road. • The effect that this has on the audience includes that the tension is built through the disruption, leading to the audience feeling emotional for the tragic deaths whereby the farmer was the one in the wrong. • It is almost like a chronological narrative as this helps to show realism.

  8. Film Language Analysis • Mise en Scene- The location of this film short is set in a rural area surrounded by fields and farms. This is very effective as they are lonely and isolated locations as well as this is the only location within the film. • Sound- This film is built up of diegetic sounds which mainly consists of speech. Although there is minimal speech between the couple which shows that there is maybe tension or not much connection between them. In addition the farmer is more confident and dominant as he quotes powerfully “This is my private land”. • This then leads to a juxtaposition as the other male is then more confident as he quotes “I’ll fight you”. • There is also a sound bridge used for when the woman gets shot. • This is then followed by the twist at the end as the farmer quotes strangely “I got a feeling this is a public footpath”.

  9. Film Language Analysis Cont. • Camerawork- The film consists of mainly long shots as well as close ups. They have chosen to use long shots as they help set the location and scenery as well as help show the storyline. For example there was a long shot for when the farmer went to his car. This is a typical stereotype that a farmer drives a 4X4 vehicle and carries a gun. • Secondly the effective use of close ups helps show body language, facial expressions and emotions. For example there was a close up of the woman’s face when her partner got shot. This showed that she was petrified and the close up of the blood helped show her emotions and fear. • Editing- There was minimal editing used within this film due to the restricted amount of scenes. Although the editing techniques which were used included shot reverse shots, match on action and reaction shot. Although these mainly occurred during the disruption.
