Formation of a Hurricane • They usually form in tropical regions. They need warm water of at least 80° F, high humidity, light winds, and warm surfaces.
What makes up a hurricane • Eye: Center of circulation and lowest pressure. Often fools people into thinking the hurricane is over because of how calm it is. • Eye Wall: Surrounds the eye of the hurricane, exact opposite of the eye, highest winds and intense storms.
What makes up a hurricane • CDO (central dense overcast): mass of embedded clouds that make up the inner portion of the hurricane. Contains eye and eyewall. • Outflow: represents all the energy being released by the hurricane.
Categorization • Category ONE -- Winds 74-95 mph • Category TWO -- Winds 96-110 mph • Category THREE -- Winds 111-130 mph • Category FOUR -- Winds 131-155 mph • Category FIVE -- Winds greater than 155 mph
