  2. Fast food outlets should be banned from opening near schools and youth centres as stated by 93% of the respondents to a public consultation in East London. According to the council leader of Waltham Forest, such shops were “a distraction from healthy school meals”

  3. In Waltham Forest, around 17% of their youngsters are obese as the government figures show. This twice the national average! Mr Loakes the leader of Waltham Forest council also added “Primarily it’s about the health of our young people. Our young people are eating fast food on the way home from school, not just at lunchtimes, and that’s the problem.”

  4. Waltham Forest’s councillors will need to vote for a change in the planning rues before any action can be taken. They are expected to debate on the matter sometime this year.
