  2. Biography • Born on September 7, 1533 in Greenwilch, United Kingdom • Held the throne for 44 years at the age of 25 • The daughter of King Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn • Was a princess, but was declared illegitimate • Died in 1603

  3. Accomplishments • Ended with war with France that her sister “Blood Mary” caused • Signed the law “Religious Settlement” to bring back the Church of England • Defeated the “Spanish Armada” when the Spaniards attacked England • Encouraged exploring the world and English literature • Sponsored the colony in the New World and the voyage around the world by Sir Francis Drake.

  4. Significance • Reigned for almost 45 years, increased English power, influenced worldwide, increased religion • Defeated all rebellions when she took the throne • Lead England as a woman when the country was biased more on men • Established Protestantism

Elizabeth’s Reign Her period of ruling was known as the "Elizabethan Age" or the "Golden Age.“ England’s economy boosted up and Elizabeth I's court became the center for musicians, writer and scholars. Queen Elizabeth I died on March 24, 1603 at the age of 69. She was buried at England's famous Westminster Abbey. The end.
