SantaCruz,CA,May27, 2014-The CaliforniaStateLegislatureunanimously passedabillyesterdaywithbipartisansupporttorecognizetheessential rolethatmuseumshaveintheState ofCaliforniaaseducational institutions.Thisoverwhelming endorsementcomplementsa programunderwaytoputthebeloved beagleSnoopyonCalifornialicenseplatesand help fund the state’smuseumsatthesametime.InrecognitionofCaliforniaMuseumsMonth,Californiansareinvited tovisitwww.snoopyplate.comtopre-ordertheirSnoopylicenseplatesand support thevital workofmuseumsin preservingandsharing ourState’scultureandheritage. AssemblymemberIanCalderon (D-Whittier)introducedACR 115CaliforniaMuseumsMonth,ameasurethatdesignatesMay2014asCaliforniaMuseumMonthand invitesall Californians to recognizeand celebratethevital rolemuseumsserveaseducational institutions.“Californiamuseums playanessentialroleinour state,”statedAssemblymember Calderoninapress release.“Theyarenot only thekeydriversof tourism,butalsoanexcellent sourceofeducationalprogramsthatenhanceastudent’slearning experience.”AssemblymemberCalderonis theChair of theCommitteeonArts,Entertainment,Sports,Tourismand Internet Media. Thelicenseplatefeaturesareproductionofanoriginal drawing ofSnoopy byPeanutscartoonist CharlesSchulz.Proceedsfromsaleswill establishacompetitivegrant programtosupport California’smuseums,administered by theCaliforniaCultural andHistoricalEndowment (CCHE),aStateentity. Inless thanfourmonths,over3,800 Californianshavepre-ordered thespecial interestlicenseplatetosupportmuseums– whichismorethanhalfthenumberneeded toestablish theprogram.TheDepartment ofMotorVehicleswill beginissuing theSnoopylicenseplatesuponreceiptof 7,500paid applications. TheSnoopy plateisalsoanopportunitytocommemorateSantaRosacartoonist andculturaliconCharlesSchulz.JeanSchulz,the widowofPeanutscartoonist CharlesSchulz,theSchulz family, and PeanutsWorldwidearegenerouslyallowing accesstotheoriginal drawing forthisspecialplate. The CaliforniaCultural and HistoricalEndowment(CCHE) wasestablishedatthe CaliforniaState Libraryin2003.AB482(Atkins) transferred the CCHE tothe CaliforniaNatural ResourcesAgencyin2014.CCHE grantshavehelped topreservethemanyhistoric treasures thatare California's culturallegacy.Current fundingfor CCHE projectsisfromvoter-approved Proposition40bondsfrom theCaliforniaCleanWater,CleanAir,SafeNeighborhood Parks,andCoastal ProtectionAct of 2002.Approximately$122millionwasappropriated to CCHE todistributecompetitivelyforthe acquisition,restoration,preservationand interpretationofhistoricaland cultural resources.http://resources.ca.gov/cche/
