  2. Our Aim Today • Inform you about the work done by the Global Education Committee • C for GE: stress the need for • a passive educational space during renovation in the Campus Center • continued schedule of events

  3. Who We Are • Standing sub-committee of WVC’s AS, 2004 • Co-Chairs: Janine Gerzanics & Cynthia Reiss • Members: Dulce M. Gray, Celine Pinet, Michelle Donohue-Mendoza, Vicky Kalivitis, Mel Vaughn, David Ryan, Lou De La Rosa, Lance Shoemaker, Cigdem Bulut

  4. GE Committee’s Charge • To advance understanding of global concerns as they pertain to every • aspect of education in the community college.

  5. Why Invest in GE • Global Education fosters competency in • understanding the interconnectedness of peoples and systems • having general knowledge of history and world events • accepting and coping with the existence of different cultural values and attitudes • celebrating the richness and benefits of diversity

  6. Our Involvement • Turkey: Interior Design • Kuwait • Brazil: FIPSE grant • Egypt: international students • AIFS and NCSAC • WVC Center for Global Education

  7. Result of effort of Committee on Global Ed • Opened Wednesday 6 February 2008 • To date, held almost 50 events • Attended by 2,713 people • Transition space • Design space

Mission StatementCenter for Global Education • promotes awareness by functioning as a resource where students, faculty, staff, administrators and the surrounding community find information and participate in diverse multicultural activities • supports the processes by which students learn about interdependence in our world and prepare for successful integration into varied societies; • helps to implement the Student Equity Plan, to address issues of recruitment, retention, persistence and success, and • facilitates needed conversations about diversity within the United States.

Vision for GE Committee • Passive transitional educational space in Fox Center • Website for the Center for Global Education • Maintain consistently ongoing activities • Passive educational space in Fox Center during renovation of Campus Center • Planning for the new dedicated space in the Campus Center • Establish policies and procedures for study abroad • Develop stronger connections with international students • Work with AS to strengthen opportunities for infusing curriculum with global concerns • Expand “data bank” for faculty opportunities • Administrative Assistant • Director of Global Education
