  13. Summary • All product information is in one place • All SKU information is in one place • All E-Documents are in a central index • Products can be organized by type, application, cost …etc • Site wide changes are automatic • Search can be contextual and targeted by data • Manage the information using a web browser

  14. Shopping Cart Option • This design application can integrate a shopping cart function. • In the initial SKU table design you will need to determine pricing and shipping options for each SKU • List price or trade? • Tax tables – which states? • Shipping & handling? • Shipping methods?

  15. Product Selector Option • Product Selector / Search functionality • Specification data can be integrated into the product or SKU tables • Separate templates or single template can be created for differing products • Management of the Product Selector tool becomes integrated into the site.

  16. Multi-Lingual Web Site Option • We expand the basic data structure to include fields for each language • User decides which language when entering the site • Questions: • Will navigation be the same for all languages? • How many languages? Fixed or expandable? • Separate templates for each language?

  17. Administration Tools Web Browser based tools allow you to: • Create, edit & delete product information • Upload product images – The server will resize and make thumbnails • Upload E-Documents (.pdf, .doc, .zip … etc) • Associate products to categories, documents & SKU items • Manage all aspects of the catalog

  18. Administration Tools Create or Edit menus and assign templates Sort menus and product visually

  24. Summary • Database driven web site • Uses structured data • Can make decisions based on user input • Can be managed using a web browser • Do not need to know HTML • Bolt-in applications • Expands the product catalog and web site functionality • No need to redesign entire web site to add most new applications • All Managed using a web browser • Design considerations • How much detail defines data structure • Trade offs between amount of data and managing it • Trade offs between static and dynamic template designs
