Garcinia cambogia (GC) is a small, pumpkin-shaped fruit that grows in
Southeast Asia and India. The key active ingredient found in the rind of
garcinia cambogia extract is hydroxycitric acid (HCA), which some research
suggests can help certain people lose weight.
Currently,There are a lot of weight loss products labeled with garcinia
cambogia extract powder. Most people are drawn to the idea of using GC
because of the potential that it can provide near-effortless, quick weight loss
without the need to change someone’s overall diet or lifestyle very much.
GC itself is not a new product; in fact, it’s been consumed in parts of Asia for
many years, although not for the purpose of losing weight. Since GC
(traditionally also known as the Malabar tamarind) first began to gain popularity
in the U.S. several years ago — after appearing frequently in the media and on
popular health-related TV shows — sales have gone up dramatically. More
and more people are purchasing this so-called “weight loss miracle drug” in
hopes of losing stubborn body and stomach fat they’ve been struggling with for
But just like most other weight-loss supplements, pills and products, studies
regarding GC’s effects and safety have been mixed. While there’s some
evidence that HCA might be able to aid in weight loss even when someone
does not exercise often or change his or her diet very much, there’s also
concerns regarding serious side effects that can occur, including liver damage
or failure, anxiety, fatigue, dizziness, and digestive problems.
Remember that just because GC is derived from a natural fruit doesn’t mean
it’s always completely safe. So is garcinia cambogia extract powder ultimately
worth trying? What’s the truth with this purported weight-loss supplement?
Let’s take a look at how HCA works, in what situations GC might be helpful,
and what adverse reactions are possible when using any type of weight loss
drug. Finally, it’s worth considering the fact that time and time again we see
various fad diets and products publicized to help boost weight loss — but what
really works in the end is living a healthy lifestyle long term.
2. Hydroxycitric Acid for Weight Loss - Secret Sauce Of
Effective Garcinia Cambogia Extract Powder
The exact constituent of this fruit which is useful for weight loss is hydroxycitric
acid – and Garcinia Cambogia was actually the first natural source to be
discovered . Hydroxycitric acid is still being actively researched, but studies
completed so far show that it is effective in preventing and reducing the build of
fatty tissue, especially around the abdomen.
This means that Garcinia Cambogia inhibits lipogenesis – the process by
which the body creates fat – and is therefore an incredibly useful tool in
combatting obesity or any other weight-related problem. A recent review of
several clinical trials confirmed that this product has a genuine and significant
impact on weight gain, and no adverse side effects have been observed at
recommended dosage levels. Many commercially available effective & strong
Garcinia Cambogia preparations and supplements contain other ingredients
as well as the hydroxycitric acid itself. Some of these additions can help with
uptake of the active ingredient, whilst others may be less desirable.
3. Garcinia Cambogia Extract powder For Weight Loss
Many high-quality human studies have tested the weight loss effects of
garcinia cambogia extract powder. What's more, most of them show that the
supplement can cause a small amount of weight loss. This graph summarizes
the weight loss results from nine studies on garcinia cambogia extract
The blue bars show the results from the supplement groups, while the orange
cambogia extract powder has been shown to cause weight loss of about 2
pounds (0.88 kg) more than a placebo, over a period of 2–12 weeks. That said,
several studies have not found any weight loss advantage.
For example, the largest individual study, which tested 135 participants over
12 weeks, did not find any difference in weight loss between the group that
took garcinia cambogia extract powderand the group that took the placebo. As
you can see, the evidence is mixed. Garcinia cambogia extract powder can
produce modest weight loss in some people, but their effectiveness cannot be
4. Do Garcinia cambogia extract powder really work for
There are two main ways garcinia cambogia extract powder is really work for
） It May Reduce Your Appetite
Studies in rats have shown that those given garcinia cambogia supplements
tend to eat less. Similarly, some human studies have shown that garcinia
cambogia extract powder is able to suppress appetite and make you feel
full. How it reduces appetite isn't fully known, but rat studies have suggested
that the active ingredient in garcinia cambogia extract powder can increase
serotonin in the brain. Theoretically speaking, since serotonin is a known
appetite suppressant, higher blood levels of serotonin could reduce your
appetite. However, these results need to be taken with a grain of salt. Other
studies have found no difference in appetite between groups taking this
supplement and those taking a placebo. It may be that these effects depend
on the individual.
）It May Block Fat Production and Reduce Belly Fat
The most important activity of garcinia cambogia extract powder is probably its
effects on blood fats and the production of new fatty acids. Studies in humans
and animals have shown it may lower high levels of fat in the blood and reduce
oxidative stress in the body. One study also suggests it may be especially
people. Another study gave moderately obese individuals 2,800 mg of garcinia
cambogia extract powder daily for eight weeks.
By the end of the study, the group had drastically reduced several risk factors
• Total cholesterol levels: 6.3% lower
• LDL (the "bad") cholesterol levels: 12.3% lower
• HDL (the "good") cholesterol levels: 10.7% higher
• Blood triglycerides: 8.6% lower
• Fat metabolites: 125–258% more excreted in the urine
cambogia extract powder inhibits an enzyme called citrate lyase, which plays
an important role in the production of fat. By inhibiting citrate lyase, garcinia
cambogia extract powder is thought to slow down or block fat production in the
body. This may reduce blood fats and lower the risk of weight gain, two major
disease risk factors.
5. How Much garcinia cambogia extract powder Should
If you decide that you still want to try taking GC for weight loss or its other
benefits, here’s what you need to know about dosage recommendations for
products containing HCA:
Studies using GC have used a wide range of doses, anywhere from one gram
to 2.8 grams daily. Typical doses are ususally between 250–1,000 milligrams
Study durations have also varied widely, ranging from using GC between two
to 12 weeks at a time.
The optimal dose of HCA is currently still unknown. It’s not clear if a higher
HCA dosage even means a higher bioavailability of HCA once consumed.
There does seem to be a significant correlation between the dosage of HCA
and body weight loss, meaning higher doses have slightly more effects.
Garcinia cambogia extract powder continues to be the most widely used
supplement in studies for providing HCA, however aside from GC, HCA can
also be found in supplements made from the plant Hibiscus subdariffa.
Because most studies have investigated the effects of GC taken for about
eight weeks, researchers believe this is ultimately “too short a time to assess
the effects of HCA on body weight.”
powder “formulas” or “supplement blends,” which might fail to report all of the
other ingredients included or accurate levels of HCA. Many proprietary
formulas are made by manufacturers that only use a fraction of the active
ingredient or standard dose to keep costs down. Always read labels and look
for the words “pure garcinia cambogia extract” powder and “hydroxycitric acid
(or HCA) extract” (this should be around 50 percent to 60 percent of the
product). If you purchase a blend and see an ingredient listed without an
amount, that can be a red flag that you don’t know exactly what you’re getting.
6. Garcinia Cambogia Extract Benefits
Animal and test-tube studies suggest that garcinia cambogia extract may also
have some anti-diabetic effects, including:
• Decreasing insulin levels
• Decreasing leptin levels
• Reducing inflammation
• Improving blood sugar control
• Increasing insulin sensitivity
Garcinia cambogia extract may also have benefits for the digestive system.
Animal studies have suggested it helps protect against stomach ulcers and
reduce damage to the inner lining of the digestive tract. However, these effects
need to be studied further before firm conclusions can be drawn.
7. How to Take Garcinia Cambogia Extract to Maximize
Many health food stores and pharmacies offer several varieties of garcinia
cambogia extract. Choose one from a reputable manufacturer that contains
50–60% hydroxycitric acid (HCA). Recommended dosages can vary between
brands. Generally, it is recommended to take 500 mg, three times per day,
30–60 minutes before meals. It is always best to follow the dosage instructions
on the label. Studies have only tested these supplements for up to 12 weeks at
a time. Therefore, it may be a good idea to take a few weeks off every three
months or so.
8. Potential Garcinia cambogia Side Effects
While some people claim they don’t experience any side effects at all from
using GC, others have had very different experiences. Here’s one disturbing
account regarding the use of garcinia cambogia extract that you might not
have heard about: It’s contributed to at least several patients winding up in the
hospital with liver failure and needing emergency liver transplants.
A 2016 article published by the Transplantation Center at the Mayo Clinic
reports that millions of Americans regularly use herbal supplements, often in
pill form, but aren’t aware of their full effects. Many weight loss drugs pose
potential hidden dangers and are “associated with hepatotoxicity and acute
In the case of garcinia cambogia, it can easily be overused and is not very
well-regulated. Some manufacturers recommend taking high doses multiple
times per day, for example 30 to 60 minutes before every meal for eight to 12
weeks straight. (8) Aside from liver damage, other garcinia cambogia side
effects that can occur include:
• becoming fuzzy or weak
• fatigue and brain fog
• skin rashes
• an increase in catching colds/lower immune function
• dry mouth and bad breath
• digestive issues like nausea, trouble eating or diarrhea
Something else to consider about GC is the long list of its potential
medical/drug interactions. Many people should avoid garcinia cambogia due to
how it can affect other medications, pregnancy, nutrient levels, blood sugar
and more. Garcinia cambogia can potentially interact badly with:
• pregnancy and breastfeeding
• existing cases of liver or kidney damage
• medications that are taken to control asthma and allergies
• diabetes medications and insulin
• iron supplements (usually taken by people with anemia)
• pain medications
• medications used to control mental disorders like anxiety and depression
• statin drugs that lower cholesterol
• blood thinning drugs (like warfarin)
9. Garcinia Cambogia Extract customer reviews
Garcinia cambogia is hot. Nearly a million Americans each month Google this
supposed weight-loss supplement. They're looking for reviews on garcinia
cambogia's effectiveness, what kind of side effects it causes, and where they
can buy it. My mom recently bought a bottle of the pills at Costco because she
saw a segment about garcinia cambogia on a TV show.
Manufacturers claim that garcinia cambogia boosts weight loss by, among
other things, "slowing the body's ability to absorb fat," "replacing fat with toned
muscles," and even improving your mood and suppressing "the drive to react
to stressful situations with food." How, you may ask? It's mostly pinned on
hydroxycitric acid (HCA), a substance found in garcinia cambogia that appears
to inhibit an enzyme called citrate lyase and interferes with fatty acid
“HCA does do that—but in a petri dish," says Steven Heymsfield, M.D., the
former head of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge,
La. "Converting that to actual weight loss in humans would take 1,000 steps
beyond that," he says.
Back in 1998, Heymsfield published the first randomized controlled trial on the
effectiveness of garcinia cambogia, in the Journal of the American Medical
Association. He found no weight-loss benefits. Heymsfield, who continues to
study the topic of weight-loss supplements at Pennington, says that about a
dozen negative studies have since been published about garcinia cambogia.
But that has not stopped marketers of the supplement, he says, from “weaving
a story with obscure facts. Maybe each fragment has some validity, but if you
wind it together it makes no sense at all.”
His original study, conducted by Columbia University’s Obesity Research
Center, looked at 135 overweight men and women age 18 to 65; about half
were given garcinia cambogia and the other half a placebo three times a day
before meals. Both groups ate a high-fiber diet and returned for evaluation
every two weeks. At the end of the 12-week trial, there were no important
differences in weight loss between the two groups.
A review of 12 trials involving garcinia products published in the Journal of
Obesity in 2011 came to the same conclusion. Another study by researchers at
Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia, and published in 2013 in the journal
Complementary Therapies in Medicine found that overall the evidence for
garcinia cambogia was “not compelling.” As for garcinia cambogia's side
effects, controlled studies and animal studies have found very few, although
Heymsfield says, “I don’t think it’s 100 percent safe.”In 2009 the Food and
Drug Administration warned consumers about Hydroxycut, a product line
containing garcinia cambogia and several other ingredients, based on serious
reports of health problems, including jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, liver
damage requiring a transplant, and one death from liver failure. The FDA said
it was unable to determine exactly which ingredients were associated with the
liver injuries. (Hydroxycut's manufacturer, Iovate Health Sciences, withdrew
the products, though it has since returned a reformulated product to the market
containing no garcinia cambogia.)
“Being obese is difficult because only some of it is related to self-control,”
Heymsfield says. “And it’s not easy to lose weight in our environment. Just
preventing further weight gain is an accomplishment for some people.” The
biggest problem with garcinia cambogia, Heymsfield says, besides being a
waste of money, is that it distracts people from concentrating on the important
things when it comes to weight loss: increasing your activity level and eating a

When you combine these two supplements, you get the best of both worlds,
but you also get additional weight loss power. Individually, each of these
supplements are powerful, but combined, they’re almost unstoppable. Some of
the benefits of combining these supplements are lower body fat percentage,
increased metabolism, better hormonal health and reduced appetite. When
you take both of these supplements at the same time, you’re taking a holistic
approach to weight loss. Order your BUNDLE HERE.
The best part is that both supplements are derived from natural plants, so they
cause virtually no side effects. There are some very harsh weight loss
supplements available, but Garcinia Cambogia extract powder and Forskolin
provide the benefits without the negative downsides associated with harsh
supplements. These products have been shown to be safe, natural and
effective, but it’s important that you combine them with proper dieting and
Garcinia Cambogia extract powder provides cortisol and serotonin regulation,
which results in reduced stress and better mood. These benefits will almost
guarantee that you’ll sleep better. With better sleep, you’ll feel refreshed and
have more energy to dedicate to weight loss. Both supplements provide
benefits that build on each other. The thyroid gland controls many of your
body’s metabolic functions. It regulates your body’s hormone levels, and the
combination of Forskolin and Garcinia Cambogia extract powder
shown to improve thyroid functioning.
11. Can you take Garcinia cambogia and green coffee bean
at the same time?
Also known as Garcinia Gummi-gutta extract, the supplement has become a
byword among those who want to lose weight the natural way, but the same
thing can be said for green coffee. As I pointed out earlier, research shows that
there’s no conflict between the two, but there are still some who want to
compare both. First of all I would like to stress that both supplements work very
well, but they do so differently. Here’s a brief explanation of how these
supplements burn fat as well as the evidence supporting them.
(1) A Closer Look At Green Coffee
The active ingredient here is Chlorogenic acid, and this more than anything
other is responsible for burning fat in your body. According to research,
Chlorogenic acid works by slowing the amount of glucose that your liver puts in
your bloodstream. If there’s not enough glucose in your bloodstream, your
body is left with no choice but to tap into the stored fat and use it as energy,
and this of course leads to weight loss. Apart from losing weight, an added
benefit is it takes away your hunger pangs so you can lose pounds without
feeling deprived of food.
(2) Green Coffee – The Evidence
There are a growing number of studies proving that coffee bean supplements
are effective, including one study done by Dr. Joe A Vinson. In this rigidly
controlled, double blind, placebo trial, the participants that availed of the lost
several more pounds compared to those that used placebo.
Another study was done by Dr. Oz with 100 women participating, and half of
which were given the extract of the raw coffee and the other half placebo.
None of them were asked to change their diet, but after a couple of weeks
those who took the natural coffee extract lost more pounds than those that
took placebo, leading credence to the earlier studies. The best part about
these studies is healthy participants reported no side effects, and by just taking
three 400 mg 45% Chlorogenic acid tablets a day they started losing weight.
(3) A Closer Look At Garcinia Cambogia
Reviews of naturally extracted garcinia have been very positive, and the key to
weight loss is hydroxycitric acid or HCA. HCA is similar to the Chlorogenic acid
in that it suppresses your appetite, but it burns fat differently.
Researchers are not yet entirely sure how it works, but essentially what it does
is increase the serotonin in your brain, the chemical that tells your body to stop
eating. I would also like to point out that serotonin is the same chemical that
keeps people from emotional eating binges, so higher levels are great. But
that’s not all that HCA does, because it also keeps the enzyme citrate lyase
from being released. This is the enzyme that turns food carbohydrate into fat,
which is one of the reasons why you get fat. But since HCA inhibits this
enzyme, your body’s ability to store fat is slowed down, and the remaining fat
cells will be used as energy.
(4) Garcinia Cambogia – The Evidence
Like the raw coffee, there’s scientific evidence that GC is essential for weight
loss. One of these studies was done at Purdue University and the results are
impressive to say the least.
The subjects were given 400 mg doses of GC half an hour before meals, and
after 12 weeks each participant had lost more than 8 lbs. And the best part
about this is the participants didn’t even need to do more exercise or go on a
crash diet. I also found out that Georgetown University also did an 8 week
study wherein the participants lost 5.4% of their body weight. In both studies,
the participants were given 60% HCA, so you need to make sure that the
supplement you take has that amount. As for the dose, 800 mg to 1000 mg will
As far as side effects go, none has been reported so far, and that’s not really
surprising because this is a natural product. However if you’re taking any kind
of medication for a medical condition, ask your doctor first, and you should do
the same with green coffee beans.
(5) Our Verdict
As you can see, the study done by Dr. Hanslow shows that both supplements
are effective and safe, so there’s nothing wrong when taking these
supplements together before meals. Neither has any significant side effects
unless taken in extremely high doses and they are both convenient to use. On
their own, each supplement should work well, but if you want to try both there’s
nothing wrong with it either.
By trying both, you’ll be able to determine which one works best for you. Take
1 x 400 mg raw coffee bean capsule half an hour twice a day before meals for
a week, and then do the same with 1 x 1000 mg of garcinia. But defer to the
instructions on each bottle when in doubt.
We have managed to track down the same labs that Dr Hanslow used. They
graciously agreed to supply our readers with 50 trial bottles of their
supplements, but could not guarantee more than that. All you need to do is pay
$4.97 for postage and packaging and the bottles will be sent to you.
