5. How Much garcinia cambogia extract powder Should

You Take?

If you decide that you still want to try taking GC for weight loss or its other

benefits, here’s what you need to know about dosage recommendations for

products containing HCA:

Studies using GC have used a wide range of doses, anywhere from one gram

to 2.8 grams daily. Typical doses are ususally between 250–1,000 milligrams

per day.

Study durations have also varied widely, ranging from using GC between two

to 12 weeks at a time.

The optimal dose of HCA is currently still unknown. It’s not clear if a higher

HCA dosage even means a higher bioavailability of HCA once consumed.

There does seem to be a significant correlation between the dosage of HCA

Because most studies have investigated the effects of GC taken for about

eight weeks, researchers believe this is ultimately “too short a time to assess

the effects of HCA on body weight.”

Animal studies have suggested it helps protect against stomach ulcers and

reduce damage to the inner lining of the digestive tract. However, these effects

7. How to Take Garcinia Cambogia Extract to Maximize

the Benefits?

Many health food stores and pharmacies offer several varieties of garcinia

cambogia extract. Choose one from a reputable manufacturer that contains

50–60% hydroxycitric acid (HCA). Recommended dosages can vary between

brands. Generally, it is recommended to take 500 mg, three times per day,

30–60 minutes before meals. It is always best to follow the dosage instructions

on the label. Studies have only tested these supplements for up to 12 weeks at

a time. Therefore, it may be a good idea to take a few weeks off every three

months or so.

8. Potential Garcinia cambogia Side Effects

While some people claim they don’t experience any side effects at all from

using GC, others have had very different experiences. Here’s one disturbing

account regarding the use of garcinia cambogia extract that you might not

have heard about: It’s contributed to at least several patients winding up in the

hospital with liver failure and needing emergency liver transplants.

A 2016 article published by the Transplantation Center at the Mayo Clinic

reports that millions of Americans regularly use herbal supplements, often in

pill form, but aren’t aware of their full effects. Many weight loss drugs pose

potential hidden dangers and are “associated with hepatotoxicity and acute

liver injury.”

In the case of garcinia cambogia, it can easily be overused and is not very

well-regulated. Some manufacturers recommend taking high doses multiple

times per day, for example 30 to 60 minutes before every meal for eight to 12

weeks straight. (8) Aside from liver damage, other garcinia cambogia side

effects that can occur include:

Garcinia cambogia is hot. Nearly a million Americans each month Google this

supposed weight-loss supplement. They're looking for reviews on garcinia

cambogia's effectiveness, what kind of side effects it causes, and where they

can buy it. My mom recently bought a bottle of the pills at Costco because she

saw a segment about garcinia cambogia on a TV show.

Manufacturers claim that garcinia cambogia boosts weight loss by, among

other things, "slowing the body's ability to absorb fat," "replacing fat with toned

muscles," and even improving your mood and suppressing "the drive to react

to stressful situations with food." How, you may ask? It's mostly pinned on

hydroxycitric acid (HCA), a substance found in garcinia cambogia that appears

to inhibit an enzyme called citrate lyase and interferes with fatty acid

metabolism.

“HCA does do that—but in a petri dish," says Steven Heymsfield, M.D., the

former head of the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge,

La. "Converting that to actual weight loss in humans would take 1,000 steps

beyond that," he says.

Back in 1998, Heymsfield published the first randomized controlled trial on the

effectiveness of garcinia cambogia, in the Journal of the American Medical

Association. He found no weight-loss benefits. Heymsfield, who continues to

study the topic of weight-loss supplements at Pennington, says that about a

dozen negative studies have since been published about garcinia cambogia.

But that has not stopped marketers of the supplement, he says, from “weaving

a story with obscure facts. Maybe each fragment has some validity, but if you

wind it together it makes no sense at all.”

His original study, conducted by Columbia University’s Obesity Research

Center, looked at 135 overweight men and women age 18 to 65; about half

were given garcinia cambogia and the other half a placebo three times a day

before meals. Both groups ate a high-fiber diet and returned for evaluation

every two weeks. At the end of the 12-week trial, there were no important

differences in weight loss between the two groups.

A review of 12 trials involving garcinia products published in the Journal of

Obesity in 2011 came to the same conclusion. Another study by researchers at

Victoria University in Melbourne, Australia, and published in 2013 in the journal

Complementary Therapies in Medicine found that overall the evidence for

garcinia cambogia was “not compelling.” As for garcinia cambogia's side

effects, controlled studies and animal studies have found very few, although

Heymsfield says, “I don’t think it’s 100 percent safe.”In 2009 the Food and

Drug Administration warned consumers about Hydroxycut, a product line

containing garcinia cambogia and several other ingredients, based on serious

reports of health problems, including jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, liver

damage requiring a transplant, and one death from liver failure. The FDA said

it was unable to determine exactly which ingredients were associated with the

liver injuries. (Hydroxycut's manufacturer, Iovate Health Sciences, withdrew

the products, though it has since returned a reformulated product to the market

containing no garcinia cambogia.)

“Being obese is difficult because only some of it is related to self-control,”

Heymsfield says. “And it’s not easy to lose weight in our environment. Just

preventing further weight gain is an accomplishment for some people.” The

biggest problem with garcinia cambogia, Heymsfield says, besides being a

waste of money, is that it distracts people from concentrating on the important

things when it comes to weight loss: increasing your activity level and eating a

healthier diet.

thing can be said for green coffee. As I pointed out earlier, research shows that

there’s no conflict between the two, but there are still some who want to

compare both. First of all I would like to stress that both supplements work very

well, but they do so differently. Here’s a brief explanation of how these

supplements burn fat as well as the evidence supporting them.

(1) A Closer Look At Green Coffee

The active ingredient here is Chlorogenic acid, and this more than anything

other is responsible for burning fat in your body. According to research,

Chlorogenic acid works by slowing the amount of glucose that your liver puts in

your bloodstream. If there’s not enough glucose in your bloodstream, your

body is left with no choice but to tap into the stored fat and use it as energy,

and this of course leads to weight loss. Apart from losing weight, an added

benefit is it takes away your hunger pangs so you can lose pounds without

feeling deprived of food.

(2) Green Coffee – The Evidence

There are a growing number of studies proving that coffee bean supplements

are effective, including one study done by Dr. Joe A Vinson. In this rigidly

weight loss is hydroxycitric acid or HCA. HCA is similar to the Chlorogenic acid

in that it suppresses your appetite, but it burns fat differently.

Researchers are not yet entirely sure how it works, but essentially what it does

is increase the serotonin in your brain, the chemical that tells your body to stop

eating. I would also like to point out that serotonin is the same chemical that

keeps people from emotional eating binges, so higher levels are great. But

that’s not all that HCA does, because it also keeps the enzyme citrate lyase

from being released. This is the enzyme that turns food carbohydrate into fat,

which is one of the reasons why you get fat. But since HCA inhibits this

enzyme, your body’s ability to store fat is slowed down, and the remaining fat

cells will be used as energy.

(4) Garcinia Cambogia – The Evidence

Like the raw coffee, there’s scientific evidence that GC is essential for weight

loss. One of these studies was done at Purdue University and the results are

impressive to say the least.

The subjects were given 400 mg doses of GC half an hour before meals, and

after 12 weeks each participant had lost more than 8 lbs. And the best part

about this is the participants didn’t even need to do more exercise or go on a

crash diet. I also found out that Georgetown University also did an 8 week

study wherein the participants lost 5.4% of their body weight. In both studies,

the participants were given 60% HCA, so you need to make sure that the

supplement you take has that amount. As for the dose, 800 mg to 1000 mg will

be necessary.

As far as side effects go, none has been reported so far, and that’s not really

surprising because this is a natural product. However if you’re taking any kind

of medication for a medical condition, ask your doctor first, and you should do

the same with green coffee beans.

(5) Our Verdict

As you can see, the study done by Dr. Hanslow shows that both supplements

are effective and safe, so there’s nothing wrong when taking these

supplements together before meals. Neither has any significant side effects

unless taken in extremely high doses and they are both convenient to use. On

their own, each supplement should work well, but if you want to try both there’s

nothing wrong with it either.

(3) Other names for it are: red mango, Malabar tamarind, pot tamarind, brindal

(4) The fruit of the garcinia cambogia looks like a multi-lobed pumpkin, and is

usually green, yellow, or red.

(5) It’s normally the size of a large tomato but can grow to grapefruit size.

(6) The sour flesh of the garcinia cambogia will pucker your lips. It’s often

pickled and used as a condiment.

(7) After it’s sun-dried and smoked, the blackened fruit, called kodampoli, gives

a tart, smoky flavor to curries. It’s most common in fish curry.

(8) According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,

the seeds have a 30 percent fat content. The seeds are sometimes used as a

substitute for ghee, clarified butter that’s a common ingredient in Indian food.
