About me! • My name is Ms. MacDonald • I love teaching and I love my students • I have only had one student in the past 12 years that I truly disliked and that was my fault more than his – you will not be the second! • No one is perfect (especially me) – I don’t expect any of you to be perfect - when we make mistakes – own up to them – and move on.
Materials you will Need • Binder • Lots of paper (even at the end of the term!!) • Pens • Pencils • Ruler • Coloured pencils • Miscellaneous project materials
About the Course • 9 Areas of Study • Physical Environment (mainly geography) • Time and Population (time zones – locations of people) • Weather and Climate (factors that influence our climate) • Roots of our Population (who are our people) • Culture (mainly about the people who live here) • Government (3 levels of government and how each impacts us) • Economics (how we sustain ourselves financially) • Technology (how human inventions impact us) • Interdependence (how we connect with the rest of the world)

Group Activity • In small groups you are to draw Atlantic Canada to the best of your ability. I suggest you do a first draft on scrap paper. Your map must include the following: • Title • Physical Features – outline of the land and water, topography - peaks, valleys, etc • Cultural Features – political boundaries, communities, service centres, transportation routes • Key (also label) You will be sharing these so keep it neat!
