    1. Intelligent Power Software January 2011

    2. Agenda Intelligent Power Protector Intelligent Power Manager NEW – improved support for VMWare and Microsoft Hyper-V

    3. 2 pieces of software Intelligent Power Manager: software for extensive monitoring and management Compatible with Windows PCs and Servers, and VMware’s vCenter™ as well as Microsoft’s SCVMM Monitors UPS and ePDU Intelligent Power Protector: shutdown software for extended power outages Compatible with Windows, several versions of Linux, VMware’s ESX™, ESXi™ as well as Microsoft’s Hyper-V™ Excellent for virtualized environments Intelligent Power Software

    4. 3 building blocks of power management

    6. Provides automatic, graceful shutdown of computers and virtual machines/servers during a power outage that lasts longer than your available battery runtime Machines being shut down must be powered by an Eaton UPS Monitors the UPS and notifies the users and IT administrators in case of alarm Available at no charge New Intelligent Power Protector software

    7. Prevents file system corruption by graceful shutdown when power failure exceeds battery run time Avoids data loss by saving work-in-progress before shutting down operating systems What’s the need for Intelligent Power Protector software

    8. Gradually replaces LanSafe, NetWatch, NSM and NMP Supports Pulsar and Powerware UPS Supports single and three phase Works seamlessly with Intelligent Power Manager => Simplifies our UPS software offering! New Intelligent Power Protector software

    9. Easy-to-use graphical Web interface Multilingual Similar on all platforms Same look&feel as IPM Works through the network, RS-232 or via USB USB driver built in Can be remotely managed and updated with Intelligent Power Manager New Intelligent Power Protector software

    10. Direct communications to UPS Serial (RS-232) with autorecognition USB, no need for separate driver even for 5110 and 3105 Provides a web interface to the UPS Links the UPS to IPM Controller/member (= proxy) One computer running IPP as Controller is connected to UPS Other computers running IPP (members) get their info from the controller Same functionality as LanSafe Replaces NMP Network communications ConnectUPS and NMC supported Replaces NetWatch and NSM IPP communications

    11. Timing based on time on battery or battery time remaining Shutdown types: Shutdown Power down Hibernate Custom Can be remotely viewed and configured with Intelligent Power Manager IPP shutdown options

    12. Email, commands and notification with content customization Filtered by view and severity level IPP event configuration

    13. IPP supported operating systems

    14. MacOS X In the mean time: remember Mac built in support for Pulsar series and 9130 via USB Support for parallel redundant UPS Improved support for Hyper-V and VMware New bundled CD More sales tools IPP next steps

    15. Competitive Comparison – Protection Software

    16. For more information Learn more about the new Intelligent Power Software and view the product demo at www.eaton.com/intelligentpower

    18. Intelligent Power Manager software Delivers a global view of power devices across the network from any PC with an Internet browser Enables single, Web-based interface for remote monitoring and management of: Eaton and other manufacturers’ UPSs Environmental sensors ePDU products Now offers a plug-in that provides unique benefits for virtualized environments

    19. Monitor and manage power devices and Eaton environmental sensors in multiple locations, from any PC on the network Includes UPSs from other vendors Definable views — choose what information you want to see at a glance Power issue alerts Auto discovery — automatic detection of devices on the network Mass upgrade — automatic searches for software/firmware upgrades Statistics on power consumption Historic trend views Additional software features and benefits

    20. Screen views

    21. Viewable information Viewable columns: Select up to 19 viewable columns Any column can be sorted

    22. Mass upgrade/configuration Mass upgrade Helps keep connectivity firmware up-to-date (automatically checks for new versions) Simplifies upgrade —no need for special software Mass configuration Saves admin effort; one or more values can be changed on any number of cards with one operation Password and SSL secure Smaller likelihood of operator error

    23. Asset management Auto discovery Finds all UPSs in the network Editable user notes on devices Flexibly keep track of assets Can be used as the keyword in sorting and viewing

    24. Asset tracking Finds serial numbers from supported UPSs

    25. Display of IT equipment powered by UPS Displays information on powered devices Right side-panel displays for selected UPS: IP address of selected device Description of device (in this case, OS is noted) Shutdown parameters Load segments (groups of receptacles on a UPS)

    27. Virtualized Server Software Market Net: 48 million non-virtualized workloads will convert to 5.4 million virtualized physical servers by 2012

    28. Key Messages Data Center Virtualization Growth will accelerate Gartner states that percent Virtualized machines will go from 16% in 2009 to 50% in 2012 Data Centers can readily ROI the change to Virtualization VMware’s Value Proposition supports increased revenue for resellers Eaton leads in UPS virtualization First to offer shutdown capabilities on VMware’s ESXi server First to offer Power Management plug-in into a virtualized management center First to offer move of Virtual Machine to avoid server shutdown

    29. Intelligent Power Software Updates IPM is now compatible with Microsoft’s SCVMM (System Center Virtual Machine Manager IPM’s functionality within the Virtualized environment has increased: When installed on vCenter or SCVMM, IPM monitors all host server power devices from the Virtualized Management system IPM can shut down host machines within the vCenter cluster without the requirement of a shut down agent on individual servers. IPM continues to plug-in to VMware’s vCenter, but now the plug-in installation is embedded within IPM for vCenter, so a separate installation is not required.

    30. SCVMM Virtualization Configurations

    31. VMware Virtualization Configurations Options to configure Intelligent Power software with VMware products:

    32. Key terms for VMware virtualization software

    33. Key terms for VMware virtualization software vCenter Server is a software application that controls vSphere and allows IT managers to gain control over key capabilities, such as vMotion™ (see below). Intelligent Power Manager unlocks these capabilities for use with your power devices.

    34. Intelligent Power Manager: vCenter plug-in Allows integration of Intelligent Power Manager with VMware’s virtualization platform, vCenter® Server Saves customers time and resources — they can monitor and manage power and network devices from the same application
