  2. What is basketball? • Basketball is a non contact sport. In basketball you dribble or pass the ball down the court and shoot the ball either from outside the 3 point line and get 3 points or inside the line and get 2 points. • Your not allowed to dribble the ball and stop and then start dribbling again. • You cant push other players out of the way, you have to dribble around them or pass to another player on your team. • The team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

  3. What you need to play basketball • A size 6 basketball. • 2 hoops with a backboard at both ends of the court for each team to shoot. • 2 umpires to decide the shots, fouls, double dribbles and travels. • At least 5 players from each team. • A coach from each team to tell you where to stand and to train the team ready for the game.

  4. Lines on a basketball court • There is a key which you are only allowed to stand in for 3 seconds. • A 3 point line is a line if you shoot from and the ball goes in the hoop you get 3 points for your team. • There is a half way line and if you cross it twice its called cross court, you don’t want that to happen. • There is also a foul line. If you get fouled then you get either 1 or 2 free shots.

  5. Uniform to wear in basketball • A basketball singlet • A pair of basketball shorts. • A pair of shoes (can be basketball shoes.) • A pair of socks (can be basketball socks.) • Maybe a plain or sports singlet under your basketball singlet to absorb most of the sweat that you are making while playing basketball – Optional

  6. Rules • You can’t dribble the ball, stop then start dribbling again. • You can’t hit people on the arm, head, body or any other body part. • If you get fouled then you get to have 1 or 2 free shots from the foul line. • The aim of the game is to get the most points before the siren goes at the end of the game. • Your not allowed to push other players out of the way, you have to dribble around them or pass to another player on your team.

  7. What to eat or drink before playing • You should properly eat a banana, orange, apple, pare, strawberries or some grapes a good hour and half before the game so you don’t feel sick on the court. • Drink only a few sips of water when you have a brake/sub/timeout so you don’t get a stitch while your on the court.

  8. Basketball teams • I used to play for Maroondah Magic for 2 seasons. There uniform is green and yellow with stripes and stars on the basketball singlet and shorts. • I now play for Spirit Magic there uniform is black and red with stripes. • I follow WNBL the team that I follow is the Dandenong Rangers and I go and see them play most nights and get tips how to play.
